This address shows their version of the Baja 5b electric RTR. and it only sells for like $660 ready to run. It looks really nice and is nearly half the full HPI price.
Same here- I was thinking about buying a used 5b/ roller and converting it to BL, but the used prices are just way too high still in the UK. The quality of the chinese clones is a bit dubious, but for use on a flat-ish surface (no jumping), it might prove just fine...
I don't like the 5B kit. There is no bracing between the main chassis and the rear chassis, normally the crankcase and the clutch carrier take care of this. Without that it will fold in half on the first jump. They could have at least included something to brace it.
Thats why Mike's upcoming conversion kit would be 1000 times superior, though at the price that place is selling the whole thing for, its uber tempting to just buy it & work out your own bracing system afterwards, or see if Mikes kit will fit even.
No matter which one you buy we all make adjustments to them to sute our own needs. So buying the clone is a good way to start and build up from there. It is the huge up front investment that has kept me from buying the 5b in the first place. I enjoy building them up piece by piece myself. Starting with an RTR for $600 is a nice way to jump in.
