Narrowed it down to... four?! OMD

Ok this is it, I've narrowed it down as best I can. But I just can't friggin decide! I've never owned a buggy before, only Revo's.
All of these buggys listed are rollers, that I will convert to electric using RCM parts.

I don't race, only bash, and I bash quite hard. I also like to do speed runs, and i'm a bit of a speed freak. I'd like to be able to achieve 80+mph. I managed around 65mph in my E-Revo, but I got bored of that quickly! Too slow!

Anyways, here goes...


Hobao Hyper 7 TQ - £150 new

Hobao Hyper 8 Pro - £100 used

Mugen MBX5R - £150 used

Associated RC8 - £125 used


I've got the sellers waiting on me for my answer, but I don't know which one to go for!

all of them are out dated except the RC8 (it to is when compaired to the FT verson with big bores)

Speaking from experience, you'll enjoy the switch over to a buggy. Diffs are stronger, handles better, easier to work on; just all around a nice platform.

As to which specific one to get; I would look at which has the best local parts support, and whatever model will have replacement parts the longest.

I've checked them all, they all have good parts support in the UK, they are all equally good in my eyes, I just can't decide which one to get.

Well then, get whatever is the cheapesst and in the best condition. Since they are used, I would check the diff ring and pinion gears first thing while it is being torn down for the conversion.

I can only check them once i've bought them lol. The Hyper 7 is new (from a shop) But its £150 for just the roller, which in my opinion is quite expensive. And apparently the Hyper 8 is a big improvement on the 7 (so i've heard).

id go for the rc8. It is in the middle as far as price range goes... plus its the newest so you will probably have most options for parts

thats the RC8, it looks to be in pretty decent condition, but then again I don't really know what to look for.

Ah, I know that RC8. That's Karl Turrel's RC8. I've beaten him with my electric!

He's come to our local track quite a few times, and I'd say he's an alright guy, and seems to look after his stuff - certainly finishes finals regulalrly enough to say that he maintains his cars properly.

I'd say to go for the RC8 too, as said, it's the newest chassis there. I don't know whether you plan to race, but if so, it is one of the newer generation buggies, compared with the other older generation buggies.

The chassis looks fairly worn in those pictures, but I guess that's the black chassis not helping. (Scratches are way more visible). Anyway, nothing a nice RC-Monster chassis can't solve.

Did you say that the RC8 i posted a link to is a newer generation? How can you tell? I've been told the earlier models had durability issues...

No, I meant that it's in a newer generation of buggy design compared to the other buggies you posted.

Associated released a free service for the early issues - he will have those bits on there - he's run it for a season already so I'm pretty sure he will have purchased all the bits needed.

I don't have any experience with any of those. Got a 8ight basher myself. If that was my list I would get the RC8. It's been on my list to get someday. Mainly so I can get this for it.
