I just got in a set of the lst2 xxl shock. They are huge, bigger then a ballpark frank but smaller then a german sausage.

How did you guys set them up on your Savages?

You need to get rid of the tie rod on the rear arm to get clearance in the back. Other than that, its just a matter of putting on spacers to offset the shock far enough from the Arm and the tower so it doesnt hit on anything. I doubt if you want to go the route of the FLM towers - but if you do, check out out my thread (which I think you've seen).
FWIW, I'd make up a turnbuckle or something that spans across the outside of the two shocks to keep them from bending inwards (the shocks will sit quite a ways off the tower). I put a piece of AL channel on mine - but I think I'm going to mod up a turnbuckle to give me the ability to change shock locations.

I just read through you thread again. Nice setup. I remembered you and finnster had them and wasn't sure what was needed it I got the FLM kit. That a good tip about the brace/trunbuckle. Sounds like I just need to come up with some mounting extension and create a brace for them. I will see what I can make out so some lexan scrapes I have laying around. I found another place that had the attomic rear uprights in stock so got rid of the rear turnbuckles a while ago. Nice not having them to worry about but miss the ability to set some toe in or out.

I thought that was going to be and easy mod to hook them up. I made it harder then I needed to start out but soon found the easy way out. Usually doesn't take me long to find an easy out or an easy one for that matter. I had all four corners connected and I was ready to test it out. That's when the offset wheels I had came out of the closet and told me they really weren't all that offset after all. Huh!?!? I always thought there was something that was a little queer about them and now I know. Still love them, but not doing the hug thing anymore and the bathroom door is getting closed from here on out. Anyways, a smaller turning radius then before? That's just not possible, is it? Instead of going out and testing how the new shock do in straight line up and down the road. I kept going to get it done. Another nice thing about electric. Good to go whatever the time is. A working street light is helpful and if we are blessed we may get a full moon thrown our way. Not always a pretty sight but takes courage or a lot of alcohol to press the ham for strangers.




I had to make some bracket dew hickies for the bottom of the shock to move away from the tire. First one went fairly smooth and it kind of looked like I read the game plan. Then the second one I screwed the pooch and did it backwards and upside down it seemed like. Kind of like you hear the high heels of your boss approaching and you know he's looking over your shoulder....
The bracket look ghetto but heck I run through the trailer park when I am out playing anyways. Oh yea, that's the look I was shooting for too. I do like the way they look and how the XL handles now. I'll take a couple pics of the junk drawer that's now hanging on the arms of the Savage. One way to look at is I have more room in that drawer now. You should see what ends up on my x-mass trees. I will not be able to hear any laughter from you fellows, but I will get the warm ringing ears and that uneasy feeling like when the Gieco eyes are watching me again. I wish he would just say something already! Without pictures this post is just words after all.

When I first started the project I was going to make a support and brace setup from some 3/8 lexan. I got a half ass template of one made when a thought came to me and it paid off. I took some old aluminum e-maxx shock towers I bought from Full Force RC. They had to have a hole combination that would allow me to connect them up to the stocker towers. I know the doubt was there, I've dealt with it since grade school. Puzzles just aren't my thing alright. Before you hear it from somebody else. I still haven't solved my rubics cube. There, it out and I feel better about it. It's on the bucket list right before the prayer for forgiveness, plenty of time left. I did find the right hole combinations on these towers. I might just dust off my old square nemesis. Nah, plenty of time for that later...



Making some spacers for the top holes was another scavenger hunt and a McGuiver test I didn't even study for. A 5mm flanged axle nut fits into the top hole backwards real nice and one on the other side is almost a perfect fit but a little slop between the two. A little slop is something that most men just have to live with. Not on our RCs though, especially if you have a choice between a tight fit or some slop gong on. Tight fit is Tight in my book, if that's still a hip word anymore. I continued my desperate hunt for that perfect fit, the one that feels right. Some never find it and spend their whole life trying to get back into the womb. I say live for today and get the hell out of the town you grew up in for a little while. Kiss someone besides you cousin. Just cuz she is good enough for the rest of the men in your family no reason you have to settle for it. Back on track again. I found a combination of items that when put together they were the perfect fit to the shocks top mounting hole.

On a down note for me personally I l know you guys haven't spend at much time with my savage as me but my little LED light holders got in the way. SO I said screw it and took the LST shocks off and went back to stockers. In my mind that is. It figures the lights wouldn't make it till payday. They took some time to setup and were creative to say the least. IMO. One idea that was actually working and now I have to think of another creative light setup for winter. I know they make lights for them but I still have some parts bins and a garage to go through before I can spend money on any ready made lights. I'm sure I can come up with something. Got to keep challenging yourself. Otherwise instead of being in the lighting department explaining the details of duct taping a flashlight to hood, your the frickin greeter at Wal-Mart.





Did anyone else cringe during the first couple of header landings you took? I am okay now, but I was like thinking ouch a couple times and wasn't cutting it any slack. I was just unsure about a new parts and not my install. Everything held up nicely, except an axle stub snapped off. The shocks look like wieners to me. Bigger then the Ball Park Frank, but smaller then a……

Guy, your posts always make me smile. Especially the thing about the boss in high heels. I can now imagine what my employees think when they hear me coming...

Glad the people at the trailer park will not feel looked-down-upon when you are there.

Oh yes they will - he's got bigger tires/shocks on that Savage than those three dudes with the 4x4 'Vettes.
