Realistically, how much water can an MMM handle?

Hey guys, the title is pretty self-explanitory. I am trying to figure out a way to keep the snow off the speedy in my savage flux. So far I have tried afro-engineering some tape around it which worked alright, but there was still some water on it. I want to keep it water-resistant but still be able to breath. Kind of contradicting if you ask me

So back to my original question though, how much water can the speedy take before it goes to smoke land?

Can't you open the case and blob silicon over everything but the heatsink?
I don't get snow, so this is more out of curiosity for myself.

Hard to Say, I have seen some get soaked and last fine, and another fry from a couple of drops in the wrong place.

my mm has been soaked while bashing up north it costed me $50 bucks too lol but it can handle quite a bit keep a eye on it tho.. put it in a balloon??

You could encase the whole ESC (up to the heatsink and connectors) in epoxy. THat would definitely void the warranty, but no water troubles .... at least not on the ESC...

But then my worry is heat. If I were to coat it in anything, I'd wrap it up and plasti-dip it, however I think it would overheat due to no airflow and the fan wouldn't be able to even do it's job. I will see what I come up with and maybe post some pics. Here's to hoping I don't kill the speedy!

Ahhh I just re-read your post. You mean coat everything except basically the fan? The fan looks like a perfect spot for water to get in to me....

I'm assuming thermal epoxy would be the best option? Then fit it to an ali casing while the epoxy is still going off.

Ahhh I just re-read your post. You mean coat everything except basically the fan? The fan looks like a perfect spot for water to get in to me....

I think he means take it out of the casing first and then coat it, then put it back in the casing.

I bashed with a MMM in my E-revo all last winter in the snow with no problems. Biggest recomendation is to cover all holes in the body ( any holes drilled for air flow) since if there's snow on yhe ground it should be pretty cold out and lots of airflow isn't needed. Other idea I have is a box just big enough for the esc and a lid that will go over it, put some spacers in so that the top doesn't seal it off. This will allow room for the wires to go out and some air to get in but snow should have a hard time getting in. If interested in more details I will make a drawing and take a picture to post up

Or a box with a big lip on the lid and "spacers". Hmm, good idea's guys!

Actually, coat everything up to the heatsink. As long as there is a seal between the heatsink and the coating, it's waterproof and there is no thermal penalty. Although, I personally would want to heatsink the BEC. It's switching but it does produce some heat.

shower cap, elastic and plastic worked well for my emaxx. good luck snow is my favorite surface
