Flux drive cup o-rings -
12.17.2009, 06:39 AM
I've noticed in the Flux manual that there are supposed to be o-rings ( part 75080) in the diff drive cups but there were never any in there.
The manual for the suspension conversion kit i just received also shows them. Although it lists them as part 6811 which is a smaller o-ring that normally seals the diff cup.
I'm not sure what they would be for but my truck hasn't had any issues without them. Anybody else got these o-rings in the diff drive cups?

I might of had them at first, but I don't remem.
Basically they are to cushion the driveline and limit the in/out travel of the dogbone.
The sus conv kit uses smaller axels w/ smaller ends and drive cups, so the needed o-ring would be smaller.
I don't have them now, and I don't really care. Probably reduces pin wear some, but, eh. Too fiddly to worry about.

Nope, none in the Drive cups - there are some on the inside of the diff, where the drive cup goes through - maybe that's what you were seeing in the manual?????

Perhaps so!
I know I have some in the cvds of my truggy for the above purpose. I really don't recall them being in the sav. Then again, if it were for the inside, you would not expect two different parts for the sus conv kit..

Nope, never had O-Rings in mine either. Doubt that they would last long anyway

I put a small section of nitro fuel hose in the cups for cushioning, less noisy drive train and it centers the bones.

What do you guys use to lubricate your drive cups? I used some graphite spray quick dry lube, but now they squeek all the time.

I've used Ice Wax and White Lightning also a wax based lub, both sold as bicycle chain lubes. Both dry after applying and don't attract dirt or seem to show any build up. Ice wax is a little thicker and maybe a little better for rc. Not sure how much good they do though.
At least these lubes don't cause any noise.
