You know your addicted to rc when.... - 12.29.2009, 04:18 PM

...
-you can tell what a car is by seeing a corner of the car in a photograph
-you can tell the difference between your 2.5mm, 2.0mm, and 1.5mm wrench by the weight of them.
-when you can improvise fixes over the phone using peices from another brand of car to get a friend's car up and running..(crt.5 and rustler xl-5 hybrid)
-When hobby shop owners ask call you asking for part numbers

all true stories..

-you are the only one in the LHS that can solder...

-you can identify balancer types by the flexibility of the wire...

-you know the differences between all of the different models of more than 10 rcs...

-you convert a nitro to electric.

-you post on rcm!!!

-you have enough "spare parts" to build several vehicles
-you imagine every 1:1 vehicle being controlled via your transmitter with brushless power
-your personal collection of RCs is worth at least 10x your 1:1 vehicles' worth
-you often trip over an RC when entering or exiting most any room in the house
-everyone in your family gets an RC "something" for Xmas
-every conversation leads to, is about, or eventually becomes RC related
-you find reading posts on this website very therapeutic
-you look at pimps avatar and "just know" the yellow guy is brushless powered
-most people, including vendors don't even know your last name(RC-Monster Mike is internationally recognized)

-You're in the hobby shop so much people think you work there and ask you all their questions
-You can answer those questions better than the people who work there
-Once you get your truck pulling standing backflips and 50 MPH wheelies you replace the motor with something more powerful
-You spend more money on R/Cs than your real cars
-You see a random part at the LHS or in someone else's toolbox and know who makes it, what it's for, and a dozen good uses for it in other R/Cs
-People at the LHS regularly call or text you asking for help with someone's truck
-Your truck becomes legendary with locals
-Before you've even bought a new R/C you're thinking of how you can trick it out to go even faster
-You leave your family on Christmas night to go run your R/Cs

Guilty to all the above

EDIT:

-You drive 20+ miles round trip to the hardware store to buy 2 $0.30 screws because they're the final link in your most recent build (I usually forget something and have to go back twice)
-You order screws and bearings in bulk
-You have Castle Creations or Neu motors in your speed dial (not true for me, I have Neu in my addressbook but that's it)
-The LHS calls you to tell you of their latest electric conversion, and from what you hear over the phone you can tell it's got a CC 2200 in it (happened about 10 minutes ago)
-Someone asks you if an ESC, motor, or battery will be sufficient and you start off with "Well, it's RATED to handle [x] but you can push it to [y]...."

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

I made that mistake a few months back- walked into my bedroom with the lights off, put one foot on the rear of the Gmaxx, the other on the front; just like it was an r/c skate board, didnt know what to do for about 3 seconds before jumping off. No damage thankfully.

-you know more about setup than the writers in magazines.
-you have random dreams about using your r/c.
-your bedroom looks like a 1:10-1:8 scale garage.
-you know how to drive an r/c well but dont have a real driving license.

Wow there is more that I didnt notice
-When you have castle, tekin, neu, rc-monster and 2 local hobby shops on speed dial
-When your parents ask why your working out in a freezing garage when you could be out at a dance or other public functions
-when your ecstatic over getting a bandsaw for christmas
-when your parents forbid you from running your car with badlands in the front lawn
-when your buddies call you more then the hobby shop
-When "rc monster mike" (mike cronin) knows you by name and phone number
-When you know that Mike's last name is cronin
-When your staring at a project in the works trying to findways to improvise parts that have not come in yet just so you can run it.
-When you can identify a slash by the sound the body makes when it lands
-when you can glance at a car in the air and call what parts are going to break before it hits the ground.

all true
:)

- The LHS and RCMonster Mike know who you are by the sound of your voice when you call.

- You drive close to 6 hours total to spend 1/2-3/4 hour touring an R/C manufacturing facility.

- You think of many non-RC applications in which to use a BL motor, ESC, servos, etc.

- You have no cash, but have at least 3 projects planned.

- Even though you know they suck, you still walk through the R/C aisle at Wal-Mart.

- You have shelving units/storage/workareas specifically designed for R/C vehicles.

- When your home insurance agent asks you if you have any other insurance needs, and you ask him if $20k worth of R/Cs would be covered. And then have to increase coverage so will be.

- When R/C related sites are the first places you go when you get on the computer the first time each day....even at work.

a few apply to me, but here are some originals

when you drive your 1/1 like an RC

when you break out at least once a night on something stupid(RC related) someone says at the track.

people buy what you buy, not what won the last race, because they know that you've done hours of research on it

you want to paint your 1/1 like your RC

you have a netbook with loaded with a manual/partslist/exploded view for just about every RC made

you've never owen a GTB but everyone at the track has you program their's for them...(50% throttle of course)

you've bought/sold 20+ RCs within the past 2 years trying to find something you like

God, I hope not! If I did that, my car would spend more time in the shop than on the road.

Just like a real R/C

-when you bought a netbook just to run castle link
-when you are lucky enough to have a gf that likes r/c
-when you get half of your street into r/c
-when you drive an hour to a lhs just for a $7 part
-when you drive around with an r/c in the trunk just in case you find a cool bash spot
-when you have r/cs hanging in your bedroom

When the layout of your apartment is based on my needs for RC!

Many of those already stated apply to me as well.
I love it when my lhs asks me questions about brushless cause they don't know the answer.
Or when I go there and tell them about a new vehicle release cause they have no idea yet.
I have gotten a few ideas from this thread. ( I like the idea of hanging RCs from the ceiling.)

RC-Monster RC8T 1515 2.5D/MMM/5s RC-M 4500mah

-when you have your r/cs do yardwork (mowing the lawn)
-when you find it more fun to attach weapons to your rc then shooting them first hand
-when you build a shed or add on to your house just for your r/cs
-when you have more lipos then AA's
-when buying a replacement part is more important then groceries

- when multiple hobby shops know you by name and voice when you call
- when the hobby shops call you for advice
- posting on RCM is the best part of your day!
- planning your next vac. 2000 miles away and trying to figure out how much to ship your rc trucks there
- when you window shop EVERY day for new things to buy
