I also am an engineering major (M.E and graduated back in 1990) and to me that rig is more than capable of rock crawling. I had my own experience crawling with tube buggies before they became mainstream during my tour of duty in San Diego from 1991-1994 (how old were you at that time ). Majority of rock crawling competitions in the US does not emphasize speed but rather finesse and accuracy in tackling the obstacles. I have seen it done in Moab (never drove though) and only a few of them go fast.

This rig has it's flaws (what rig is not anyways) but for somenody to come up with this is a genius in my opinion. Saying is akin to what the Jeep guys used to say when tube buggies first started coming out back in the early 90's.

By the way, I still would not be wheeling a jeep unless it's one of the older models (built CJ5 with the Perkins diesel engine) .
Seriously?!?!? I think some of you guys need hook'd on fonix or something. It shows in the vid that it rockcrawls, which I never said it didn't. Read my posts again, like I said.

I'll say it again - it's a marvel of engineering but it is NOT the future of rockcrawling.

One more time - If you want to see some real ingenuity and designs mixed with real usable technical data with revolutionary parts and features - LOOK AT THE KING OF THE HAMMERS RACE. It DOES emphasize speed and rock crawling, especially now in all the WEROCK and similar events, check it out. If you aren't actively involved in the sport, look it all up and stop trying to "tell me how it is" because things have changed. Thanks.

I have seen the KOH race. They are the tube buggies I had been saying.

Go to pirate 4 x 4 if you're not a member yet and see the ingenuity of the members there.

Oh by the way, where I came from, we were able to convert WWII Jeeps into one of the best forms of public transit.

Besides, I did not say it's the future of rock crawling. SOmebody else said that. Where were you when tube buggies started? Were you still in your diapers?

What's your forum name over at Pirate 4x4 connection?

Who exactly are you arguing with? An invisible person....or what? Because you seem to be making this argument out of nothing, especially since I didn't say anything about tube buggies.

I'm on pirate Same name, since apparently you didn't try that.

And no, I wasn't in diapers, like that has anything to do with it since you were in diapers when the Model T was invented...or maybe you weren't around at all. I don't see how age has anything to do with it.

Can you answer this for me: Why exactly are you defending...whatever it is you're defending?

[QUOTE=gtxracer;342596]Who's panties are in a twist? And when did I say it didn't work? Maybe you should read my posts again...

Who said anything about you not working? Where did that come from? And no one is looking for a fight. Its obvious to me that we will see many different views here on RCM about this thing, some good and some not so good. How long has this thing been around? This is the first time I have seen anything about it. Considering the time line how can anyone say it is not worthy compared to the mainstream crawlers without having been run up against the norm. It is easy to critisize anything not normal or unique, but without facts to back it up you will be challenged on every point. We are not a group of think tank geniuses in here(except maybe James in his womens undies), but we are not ignorant fools either. There are allot of seasoned veterans lerking in here that have quite a bit of knowledge and experience in some form of engineering so if you decide to throw a wrench into anything posted in here you better be able to show some facts or proof to stand behind, not just a class room education. And for God sakes calm down before you give yourself a heart attack. Posting up stuff about the Hammer race that has nothing to do with this truck nor does it show anything as to whether this rig can perform or not. Take a Prozac and relax. Life is good.

You're trying to imply whatever you think you have by stating that you're an engineering major prior to saying that this machine is not practical etc. My question about in diapers was stated for the same reason you stated your major in engineering. It has nothing to do with the discussion on hand. Can you see the logic now? If age has nothing to do with it, so is your engineering major. By the way, how much experience do you have in the field? What's your major since you seem to be flaunting that ?

I am also a member of Pirate 4x4, Outdoorwire, Tacomaterritory, and Yotatech but has not been active since being stationed here in Japan since October 2005.

Some of the ideas the builder used in this truck was rather revolutionary in a sense that it use processes that are already available. Like James, stated, I also would not agree with the chain drive and would have use hydraulics more than he did.

Where did you purchase your pissing contest PHD Harold? I want to challenge that one. We have all gotten somewhat spun up in here from time to time. Things do get pretty funny in here some days. This all came about from the statement that this truck is not the future of rock crawling. How can you say such a thing? are you a prophit making predictions for the future of engineering? Or maybe one of the standing borad members who makes that decision. Don't get mad because someone questions your statements. Just provide facts to back them up. Otherwise maybe try to pre-read your posts and make sure of your wording unless you want to provoke this kind of reaction. Your arguing the point that this truck is not worthy, so how do you know this for a fact?

Ok, While K.O.H. is a cool event, it is not mainstream crawling, and I doubt if its the future of crawling/weekend warriors. It is what I would call the closest thing out there to what we try to simulate with our RC's though.

GTX, your mistake was calling the thing "useless". The logical folks (and very good readers by the way) here took that to mean what you said, not what you later said you intended.
Your exactly correct in that its weight (in its current stage of development)would likely kill it in a competition.

well, first it was about crawlers, then rock racing, then arguing, and now hilarity!!!

gtx is right, it would be a terrible rock racer

jerry and george are right, it could be a very capable crawler.

I'm just always right
