Yup, picked up a 5b ss off a buddy that was hurtin for cash. Too cheap to resist! I doubt I will go brushless with it, I don't have the experience nor the bank roll to do it right. First mod is probably going to be another pipe, this is just the HPI upgrade pipe. Under all the dirt it's damn near brand new so I am going to clean it up a bit and run it!

you get 5b's I get nikko's. Too many times I've heard, "you like r/c right? my brother/uncle/neighbor has an r/c he wants to sell" only to check it out and it's wal-mart crap. And they want more than they paid for it!!

Sweet score, let us know hw it runs.

Thanks guys, I scored it for 300 beans lol. We drove it at his place, then when I got home I drove it a bit more. It's just like any other 2wd vehicle on the snow, spins out a lot but I am going to try and find me a semi-clear parking lot tonight.

The neighbors love it already I am sure, it's not exactly quiet.

For $300 I wouldn't have been able to resist either! Gas and nitro are two different animals. I don't see the need to convert a 1/5 scale gas to brushless. It just doesn't seem worth it. $5 worth of gas and you can play all day! On the other hand $5 towards a brushless conversion might buy the connectors to go from the motor to the esc! The cost of a conversion on something that size is just too high! Your going to need a GOOD motor, no Hobby city motor is gonna push that thing and not go into a thermal meltdown, so your looking at $300-$400 for the motor. HV is gonna be necessary and I don't know if 6s and a MMM will handle what this thing is gonna need. Then the batteries, even if you did wait around till HC had some lipos in stock your gonna need at least 2x 6s 5000+mah to get any runtime. So far that means you could get the better pipe for it and put about 150 gallons of gas through it before you come close to costing the same!

RC-Monster RC8T 1515 2.5D/MMM/5s RC-M 4500mah
SC10 MMPro 13.5T 2s NeuEnery 5000mah
RC18T Mamba 25/5400kv 2s lipo + 6s NiMh

You hit the nail on the head. For 4-600 beans I could but a pretty decent motor in this thing and make it tear pretty good, oh, and it would still be LOUD AS SHIT! I love the torque of my brushless and actually they sound kinda cool too(like a little supercharger, without the motor lol) but this thing is loud, smells like your weed-wackin the grass and generally just makes a guy giggle.

Damn, you're lucky. I'd kill for a 5b at that price, in that shape.

I actually tried to get into nitro for a different experience, had an allergic reaction to it, lol. Someday I want a good gasser like a 5b!

I too have an allergic reaction to nitro. Every time I try to get one started I just start cussing and whining all of a sudden... Electric does not do that to me!

The 5b is a awesome buggy and tons O fun. I had one when they were first released and have ben wanting another since, especially after all the revisions HPI had made. The thing that makes me hold off though is the lack of all wheel drive.
Glad you got a great deal, unfortunately at some ones expense and dire situation. You'll enjoy running the hell out if it !

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Call me an asshole, but I don't feel too bad about it haha. My buddy bought it when he was making lots of money, built it then about a month later thought to himself "why the hell did I buy this..." So there it sat.

Bajas are a ton of fun! I have 2 right now, and working on a deal to get a third. They get more attention then any other of my RCs. They are very addicting to upgrade and drive, more so then any other of my RCs. I'll have to snap off a couple pics of mine to show what I mean about the upgrades.

DO NOT VISIT DDMs WEBSITE!!! if you do, you WILL spend lot of money on upgrades. I actually live just down the street from their warehouse, I can just stop in and see whats new. It is terrible if you are trying to save money, not spend it.

This is definitely not a nitro, it actually idles and runs good lol. I have never owned a nitro, and this is of course my first gas powered rc, so far I like it but no way in hell would I ever buy a nitro savage ect.
