just to be clear? -
01.21.2010, 10:01 AM
So all of my for sale threads got deleted last night becuase they weren't in a single thread. I understand now that I was causing "clutter". So later I will post all items in one thread to help rid the forum of clutter.
But my question is this, if all of my for sale thread were considered clutter, how about all the threads that have nothing to do with r/c at all?
Ex: what song are you listening to? Then there are threads about people crying about this or that, personal problems, full size cars builds, youtube links to nothing r/c releated and other misc threads having nothing at all to do with the RC world. Is that clutter too?
I buy 99% of my new stuff from RCM and 95% of my used stuff from RCM becasue for the most part people on here hace very nice stuff and know what they are talking about. What does it take to add a For Sale only area?

true it would be nice to have a separate sub-forum but here we listen to the monster himself...
if you owned your own business would you allow ppl to sell the same material you sell on the same site? i doubt it. mike is doing us a favor by allowing us to do this.. i dont think it is something you should be complaining about

Exactly. I get the point... NOW, after it's too late!
I agree that if our FS stuff is considered clutter and a "random chit chat section" isn't, then why not create a FS section??
It took me a long time to type that stuff up just right, add the pix, etc. Now it's gone and I don't have a back up. I didn't bother to back them up first because I never thought that my three threads would have gotten deleted. Not one, not two, but ALL THREE?
I'm ok with having everything listed in one big post. I just wish that BrianG would have sent us PM's first saying "Please copy your info to your computer and combine your posts into one thread asap because I'm going to delete them due to "clutter"." That way we could have copied and saved them so that an hours worth of work wasn't wasted!
I love this forum and all the guys here. You're all great. I will gladly play by the rules and I'm not really complaining or "looking a gift horse in the mouth". It's not like Mike is asking too much (unlike the TRX forum, which is ridiculous!). I simply wish we could have been informed first of what was going down so we could have had a chance to save our posts first.

I agree 100%. It is a conflict of interest on Mike's side. It's very nice of him to allow us to sell stuff in his forum, when he often has the same stuff for sale new. I think in many cases he's being cool about it maybe because some of what we are selling, we've already purchased from RCM! If I need a motor mount, I'm buying it from RCM. I need pinions, I buy from RCM, etc. We try and feed the monster as much as we can. And reselling items we've already purchased from him is a slight conflict, but our intentions aren't to hurt his business.
Tim and I aren't complaining about the fact that our multiple posts were considered clutter and removed. I think the "complaint" is that we weren't PM'd and given the chance to back up our info first so that we could fix the problem with one big post.
I have no problem listing things in one giant single post. The reason I didn't was so that I could cut down on the size of it and give as much detail as possible on each item.
But perhaps I won't give so much detail next time and leave it up to the buyers to ask the questions about specifics? I don't know what to do to be honest.
If it's in the rules that you can't have multiple for sale posts, then I apologize for missing it. I know the rules in general but I don't have them memorized like some kind of oath! Like yesterday, I had completely forgotten that you can't list prices and did so on my first post before BrianG's posted a reply saying you can't. I don't post a lot of things FS here, so that's why I forgot. But I bet I won't forget that again!
Plus, guys like myself (and Doo) contribute as much as we can to this forum and fairly often. It's not like we just joined and started selling stuff right away! We are loyal members of this forum, and RCM products.
I just wish we could have had been PM'd and given a chance to back up our posts first, that's all.

Reason: Retarded sentence structure and extreme abuse of the comma.

The multiple FS threads rule is listed under rules. I wouldn't expect anyone to memorize them but a quick look before posting a FS thread is a good idea.
Personally I like the way Mike does it say versus rctech where it's just a jumbled mess. I think Mike sees the FS thing as more a privilege that he can revoke if it gets out of hand versus a right as a member of the forum.

This would seem like a perfect time to add a "link" to the for sale rules, which would actually be a link to the rick roll... But I am not that mean so I will not do that!
As far as FS threads go, I have no idea why you guys had them deleted, but I have never had a FS thread deleted. No prices, and I attempt to lump stuff together. Maybe the mods just like me better (not likely) or my for sale items are extra gangster (also not likely).

I agree with that. It is a privilege.. and I personally am grateful for it. Let me be clear that I'm not on some kind of warpath about this, nor am I trying to make any trouble. I'm pretty much over it now! I have PM'd BrianG and asked him if he can reactivate my posts so that I can copy the text, or if he could PM the content, and then he can delete them again.
Btw... silly question sorta... but is BrianG and Mike one in the same??? At one time I thought so, and then I thought "No... why would Mike call himself BrianG?" But I wanted to ask!

Basically, it comes down to the fact that this is Mike's site and he sets the rules. And those rules are clearly laid out, are simple, and in a sticky in plain view. Frankly, it doesn't matter if one of the rules said "people must be wearing pink underwear while posting a FS item". It is what it is. This site is designed to be a support forum for Mike's products, but we do tend to chit chat. As long as the trading is done in a fairly low-key manner, he grudgingly allows this. I know Mike doesn't really care for trading at all on here, but since he does, the least we can do is follow the rules. Otherwise, it will all go away.
The mods simply try to keep up with these threads (and we do not get paid to do this BTW). As far as the deletion of those threads are concerned, it is unfortunate, but PM'ing a whole bunch of people to warn them is a waster of a mod's time. And combining multiple threads is a royal PITA, so it is easier to delete them and let the poster re-post. Again, the rules are laid out clearly in the for sale sticky.

Mike and BG are different people. I have talked to both separately, and they do not sound alike. Plus I would never think that Mike would wear women's clothing, while I am not so sure about BG...

The former is the exact reason why they don't get deleted, not the latter.

Sorry, but it's a busy morning and I honestly don't have time to go searching for the threads. Since Arct1k is the one who deleted them, maybe you could PM him and see if he'll help? If I get bored later today, I may try to help you out. No guarantees.
And no, I assure you, Mike and I are different people. Mike lives in NY and I live in Iowa. He really has no reason (or time) to create a fake screenname. The only reason I am an "admin" is so I can do one little simple mod function that I couldn't do as a regular mod for some reason.

Fully understood, everyone should feel pretty now and then. And the free drinks at ladies night are just icing on the cake. But watch out for rufies!
Maybe I did not talk with you on the phone, but we have had alot of email communication. I have talked with Mike a fair amount on the phone, seems like a great guy to me. If he allows us to sell consider it a privilege, not a right. After all he does pay for this forum!

Ok cool. I didn't think they were one in the same, cuz that would make no sense!
I understand if I can't get the orig posts again.
I will go over the rules again here soon. But I will just ask now...
Is it ok to host the items offsite and provide a link to the items FS via one post?
Cuz I personaly have a website, and can make a FS page. That way I can post the link in various forums. ???
Thanks Brian! For the record, I've got mad love and respect for Mike and this forum.

I deleted them from my bb and am overseas at the moment - it was probably coincidence but the whole page had got to be FS threads.
There were several people impacted so rather than email I actually created a thread to explain what happened.
I am happy to assist in bringing any threads back so you can recreate the threads but won't be able to until next week.
