Project HYPERactive - 02.07.2010, 02:53 PM

A Few of you may have seen me posting a few pictures around of my Hyper 7 conversion but i didn't thing they were thread worthy... now that i am nearly finished with my conversion i think i probably have enough material to make a good thread.

4 or 5 years ago i purchased a Hyper 7 tq sport, it was my first real rc, so i really have a soft spot for them...

Here's a pick of my originals one in all its glory:

Then, like an idiot i sold it to fund another rc, which wasn't half as good :(

when the opportunity arose around Christmas time of this year for me to get my hands on a mint condition one (only had 5 or 6 tanks) from my neighbour for 70 pounds ($120) fully rtr, i jumped on it.

After selling the engine and exhaust for 70 pounds on another forum (haha, guess i got the car for free?) i ended up with this, ready for motor mount and electrics:

Oh and a chassis pic to show condition:

Motor mount install (also note the cnc braces and cnc knuckles)

You may notice the fact the motor is not in the normal place for a conversion. I thought this may give me slightly better weight distribution, if it doesn't its easy just to flip the diff :)

Full electronics install, MMM 2650kv combo paired with 2 7.4v 5200mah 30c lipos:

Pic with shell:

I'm also painting up a show shell for it as we speak (liquid mask drying)

Hope you enjoyed my project thread, a few updates coming, performance (rear cvd's and a pinion selection) and visual (new body and a few finishing details to complete the custom look :))

Any tips or comments are very welcome :)

i have yet to run it as i havent got any mod one pinions :( but i cant wait :D

Not-maxamp lipos should get you pretty good. Turnigys are great for the price and hyperions are the best performance-wise. RC-M pinions are the best you can buy.

Keep us updated on your project!

those are the same batteries i have in my flux right now and they are great. they barely get warmer than ambient.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

Looks a lot like my Caster fusion!

You'll like the balance of this setup, but sometimes I wish I only had one pack to worry about not two.

I have to lug two chargers around when racing. If I had a single pack buggy filling 3-4000 mah is easier to do with one pack than two.

Looks sweet! I like the 2p setups for bashing, 4s and 6s ready. I can't really see your whole layout do you have a better picture? LRP?

Looks like you are running Caster battery trays.

If so i have had excellent experience running the Zippy 2650 line of cells with those trays. The cells are the same dimensions, which fit perfectly and the height depends on which pack you buy. I use the 4s in parallel but have had the 5s fit fine, as I assume the 6s would too.

The decals have little to do with whats going on inside it on the stock body... just stuck them on to try and distract from the pink :P

5s in parralell would work with the 2650kv setup?
and yea, they are the caster racing battery boxes :P

Welll the moment you have all been waiting for... (yea right :P)

this is my paintjob....

wait... thats not right...

HERE'S my paint job!

[IMG][/IMG]

not bad for a first body ehh?

Also, a few pics of my electronics and the layout...

Enjoy!

Everywhere I have read the 2650 can handle 6s for brief speed runs, but it is only rated for a 4s lipo or 16.8 volts. I would stick with the 4s setup.

Thats pretty....

Suddenly I want a buggy- do you think it would work putting truggy arms onto a buggy, to give it a madmax feel ( bashing only, no racing for me )?

(random question I know but humour me)

you could try it... first you would need to find a truggy and a buggy with arms that match, i'm pretty sure hyper st arms fit on hyper 7/8's and kyosho inferno st arms should mate up with a inferno mp7.5
