Locker, spool, posi traction

Are lockers what i need?. Its top on my list to get. Any pros or cons on them?

This is for a revo, mainly bashing, dirt, grass, street... sand too.

Just a rear locker....

Do I need to upgrade the rear CVDs? And is that a part I can blow up first, before I upgrade it.. or will cvds need to be upgarded with the lockers.

I dont know if you need to upgrade your CVD on your Revo but on my emaxx I did. I like the traction I got from the rear locker. I havent blown it up yet so Im happy with what it does as for the strength... you have to ask the hard core bashers about that one.

i had one on my savage, this is what i experienced

pros:
a bit more traction on off road surfaces, works good in sand
power doesnt go to the wheel with less traction
you ALWAYS have 3 wheels with power instead of 2(unless your running rear wheel drive)

cons:
More likely to break a dog bone/cvd
not good for onroad
not good for jumps, cause if you land with just about any amount of throttle you'll snap a dogbone/cvd

I like them, but i would only run one in sand. Im gonna run 100K in my savage diffs, will give it more traction but the diff will still be able to offload if its needs to.

Definitely don't get it if you are going to be running in the street. I had a spool in both my E-Maxx and T-Maxx and it would always want to slide out during speed runs. It just doesn't track straight under accelleration so I took them out. I was pretty unhappy with it in the dirt as well. Kept wanting to slide out. As far as sand goes, I can't help you out there, I've never driven in it.

I would have to agree with basketti on this one. The locker is tough on diffs and drive shafts, and probably would only be good for crawling or sand running. On loose dirt, it is tough to accelerate quick without spinning out.

I ran a spool myself. I had the problem with tracking and sliding out as well. I could have lived with that but the breaking of cvds and stuff was unreal.

Yup, I researched in a few places, It looks like a locker is not for me. Sound like its rough on cvds and other parts.

I'm going to use Diff-Lock Silicone oil. Should give me some of the effect I want and be more forgiving on the cvds. ... now I just gotta find out what needs to be removed for me to get to the diff and change the oil. If you know come post it in the Revo forum. :)

120,000 sound good?

yeah that sounds good, how many gears are in a revo diff?

I don't know much about this stuff. I did get it apart, filled and 90% back together lastnight.

There are 4 gears in the inner housing. 2 in the middle, and then the 2 on the side that turn the shafts.

The 120,000w felt really sticky, but I was actually expecting even a little more., maybe 150,000w? I haven't driven it yet so maybe it will be perfect, but I was going for a much more locked feel and its less than I expected.

a revo diff is the same reduction and are 4 spyders just like a maxx.
