Just Bought a AE RC-8B need general conversion help...

This will be my 1st buggy, 1st 1/8 and 1st brushless conversion ...over 2yrs experience building RC land stuff etc.

It will be used for bashing mainly with Sand Paddle tires in fine sand and dirt ...




* So far I have a Huge Chinese ESC capable of 10 s lipo
* Will also get a Feigao motor to start with ... 9xl?
* Few 4000mah 30c 3s LiPo packs




* Have no idea about the range of 5mm shaft pinions
available on-line ...
* No idea about wheel/tire combos

I want the cheapest conversion kit out there so I found this http://www.okhobby.hk/product.php?id_product=1077

Anything else that is vital to making this rig???

If you are looking to run 2 3s packs in a series for 6s total, I'd look to the Feigao 11XL as it will be more suited to 6s with its Kv of 1577.

I'm not sure what ESC you have here, but are you sure it has brakes and/or reverse? Most chinese ESC's are forward only and meant for air use. If this is the case, you'll most likely need to maintain the mechanical brakes and obtain a PiStix to properly run the ESC.

As far as the conversion, you say you want cheap, but quality is cheap then as well. Mounts bend and shit breaks.
Why not support the man running this site. Mike offers the best quality mounts around and has trays and conversion kits for the RC8B.

Great info thanks , as for the stuff you recommended its way over my budget for the start of this build ...I may upgrade later.

The ESC has full car options such as drag brake and reverse etc.

Which wheels/tires do I go for ?

i have the same conversion i would make sure you buy the correct size battery there is not much room for longer batteries, my flightmax 25c 5000 4s batts fit very snug. i think you can just buy the motor mount from e-bay its decent but not the quality of mikes is nice, i have not had a problem with mine though, maybe think about buying a tekno battery tray for $15 like i did and you can use many different battery sizes

I personally wound not get a Feigao motor period. Don't skip on your power system! If you do, you will end up spending much more in the end as opposed to buying it right once. For a 6s set up, go w/a Tekin TT2345 1400kv buggy motor. Much better choice.

RCM has plenty of 5mm bore pinions to choose from in the store as well as the Tekin motor I listed above

As far as wheel tire combos...1/8 buggy wheels- badland tires for all around bashing are superb. ( They are not so good on a track ) Knockoffs to the badlands can be had pre-mounted cheaply on e-bay. I have a knock off set and the work flawlessly

I agree with the previous couple posts. My first large scale brushless motor was a feigao, it was a great introduction to the power but it only lasted a couple months, buy it right and buy it once. I would recomend a MMM combo. Or a Tekin combo. I just bought a new MMM/2200 combo for my truggy, I paid about $250 from Tower using a coupon code. I also have a couple Medusa motors and a Tekno Neu, as well as another MMM in my E-MAXX. There is no point in sciping with the electonics, it may cost 1/2 as much now but when everything dies in 2 months where does that leave you? Save your money and wait till you can get something that will last. If you have to buy a new esc and motor in 2 months and that only lasts another 2 months then 4 months from now you will havbe the same investment as something good but your cheap setup will be sitting on the bench not working cause you fried it again, make the initial investment and run for years. My $65 Feigao lasted 2 months, my $260 Neu is going on 2 years!

Excellent to hear ...did you buy it at the same place?
If so are they OK to deal with?

What size tires would fit if they are sand paddles ???
