Hmmm weird about the macbook pro, IDK what they are talking about.

Looking at the apple site, they do say this about the iphone (and ipad), which seems to correlate to the story in Pc Mag:

What is the AppleCare Advance Replacement Service for iPhone?
The AppleCare Advance Replacement Service (ARS) for iPhone is a service option that is designed to reduce the amount of time you are without an iPhone. Normally, when requesting mail-in service, you must first send your iPhone to Apple before receiving a replacement. With ARS, Apple will ship you a replacement iPhone as soon as you request it, then you send your original phone to Apple. Your replacement iPhone will be new or refurbished.

How long will it take to receive my replacement iPhone?
Your replacement iPhone will arrive approximately two to three business days after you request it from Apple.
#
How long can I keep my original iPhone before I must return it to Apple?
To avoid incurring a late fee, you must return your iPhone so that Apple receives it within 10 days of shipping the replacement iPhone to you (“Return Period”). For information on your replacement phone shipment status, visit the Repair Status website.
Also says it costs $86 bucks. This ARS service is an extra $30. Damn.

IDK, but it would creep me out a bit to get someone else's phone/max-ipad. What if the guy used it just sitting on the crapper & browsing adult sites? Eww...
Not enough bleach in the world to get that clean.
Rather just order a cheap batt myself and just pop it in. No worries about losing data or anything either.
