Remember, we're not steering you away necessarily, we're just steering you down a different path, you can still arrive at where you want to be, but there are other things that you need to take care of first if you want to be a success.

words of wisdom^^

okay heres a question for you all and I hope james reads this cause I am especially looking forward to what he has to say..

I told a girl freind of mine that Im moving to tempe and need to find a job during the weekends that will pay me about 300 a week (most normal serving jobs will get you that much..)
she told me that instead of serving I should be a coctail waiter at a guy strip club (the kind that girls go to.. not gay guys) chances are Id be wearing totally homo outfits but she said that she has a freind that does it and he makes easy 500 in 3 nights.. she also said that I got the looks and all to do it and that the girls would like me cause id be that shy white guy

sort of an interesting idea but Im just throwin it out there

Yeah, I'll be interested to see what James has to say also

I've got no idea where you are in the US but I've always believed in building something to sell...working at a club might be fun?? but you can't sell the job when you've had enough or want to do something else

What about building a lawn mowing run or car wash/detailing business, pretty easy to start up in a city. You can do it when convenient, make some cash & importantly sell it as a micro business when you're done. I have a friend who builds & sells a lawn care businesses, he's bought & sold the same customers many times over...you might not get your tips shoved down the front of your pants (maybe a pool care run??) but you have something to sell

OK, here we go....

As far as owning your own business, it makes your hours, not the other way around. Plus most people like to see their business succeed and that requires constant attention. With school I really doubt you would have the time.

Onto the strip club. I know quite a few people who have done what you suggest. Not a bad idea, however you will usually work nights, and the hours can run into the early mornings. Not bad if you work fri and sat night, but not going to happen during the week (unless you take mon, wed, fri classes and work those nights). Likely you will wear some tighter or semi-revealing clothing but if you can pull it off without looking like a fat guy in tiny pants I see no problem.

I like simplechamps list. I am guessing the question marks refer to catching some cort of cougar transmitted disease (like whining?).

Maybe you will end up on stage strutting your stuff. I had a work acquaintance who did that as a side job. He had some great stories, none of which I can repeat due to common decency.

Sounds like a better idea than slinging coffee. If I had the looks to do it I would have. I am sure that you can "clean up" out there since you will be sober(ish) and the ladies will be tying one on...

Even if lots of gay guys don't hang out there, I bet many would. You can almost definitely be guaranteed the male strippers are gay.

Back many moons ago my brother worked undercover in strip clubs (he was a cop) for the owners. We were friends with the owner and will tell you it's a pretty insane environment. The owner owned several clubs both female and male.

He was always stressed as most every stripper was on coke or meth if not both among other things. The strippers both women and men were always at each others throat and there were always jealous lovers/boyfriends to contend with. The you have the unruly patrons, my brother shared plenty of those stories with me (both on the female and male side). Just saying, it may sound glamorous from the outside but be aware of what you are actually getting into.

We know you put a lot work into things, sometimes though you lack focus on the task at hand. I guess what we know, and you may not yet, is that one your classes start, your going to have a whole new look on things. Your first classes are going to seem easy, but then when tests roll around, you'll probably find yourself wondering how you got so far behind. And unlike HS, these prof's dont give a rip if you pass or not.

I had a hard time my first two years - I partied too much and didn't give the schoolwork as much attention as I should have. I flunked a few classes (one more and they would have kicked me out). What I didn't realize at that particular time was how much it was going to cost me in the long run. I had to go to school for an extra two years to get caught back up. At that time (20 years ago), it was "only" about 8K a year, but on top of that, I lost 28K a year in what I would have been making at my job. Back then, the total cost to me was 72K. In todays numbers, that's likely well over 100K. Not to mention that my GPA suffered, and I probably would have have a couple more job offers to choose from - I only ended up with two, both from the same company!! I managed to pull my sophmore GPA of 1.6 up to 2.9 by the time I graduated. Not an easy task in Mechanical Engineering, at a school with a reputation of being one of the hardest to get a degree in.

Add in to that mess, I got my GF pregnant in our second year, and put myself even further behind.

I made all the mistakes for you (the only one I didn't get into was drugs thank god).

Your right about not being able to sell it. Also, with working in restaurants, bars, clubs, etc I really wont learn anything that will help me with my career.
Ill talk to my friend about those ideas! thanks

I only plan on working weekends so that shouldnt be a problem, and I never really thought about how wack the job might be.. just thought about the money lol.

I dont honestly mind gay people.. I didnt mean to sound like that.. just saying I would prefer girls to hit on me than guys. haha.

If i go to the place and it is like how you say then I definetly wont stay there for long.. right now I work at olive garden and half the people there do drugs but usually its just weed... coke.. meth........ Im not into hearing or seeing that stuff. way too hardcore for me.

Im not sure if you all know, but Ive been in school for about 2 years now and have all my generals out of the way so Im finally going to start working on the actual engineering stuff. My GPA at my local college is a 3.2 which isnt horrible, but Im not too proud of it

Once I get up to ASU I'll have to step it up in because I really would like to graduate with a 3.5 or higher 3.8-4 is my goal.

I dont think I'll get into the whole partying phase as I never have been in it.

Thanks for your advice JT

Yeah, right there with you buddy. Harold likes it when dudes hit on him...or hit him, I can never remember but either way I thought it was weird...

Anyways, the "Ladies Club" sounds like fun to me. Drunk people love to tip and "other stuff" too.

A good idea for a job partime job/business would be a mobile detailing service. There is one that runs down here that my father uses and they do AMAZING work and are very fast and reasonably priced. He either drops his truck off on his way to work and gets it later or they come get it and bring it back when they are done.

of course this would mean you need to know how to detail cars exceptionally well because the only way to get business in that type of work is other people seeing work youve already done.... if your good enough you could get picked up to do some jobs for used carlots and such. These are all cash jobs and people will pay good money to have it done with it being so conveinent.

Wow i should have read the second page before i posted.... lmao

i helped my mom startup and run a restraunt/grill and also a consignment shop and i NEVER want to do that again what a huge pain in the ass and just countless hours of busy work and preparation. All that work paid off but if you consider the amount of hours put in to the output it wasnt worth a damn. We did sell both of them in the green after my aunt died and she didnt wanna deal with the stress of the two businesses anymore.. but it was a 8 day a week job and nothing is never simple.
