I'm not an illegal so I don't know the ins & outs of disappearing however I do know that it's easy enough to pay into the system with PAYE etc. Unless you can create/steal a new identity, I don't think you can take back from the system...as in - leave the country, recieve Medicare benefits (they closed that loop), open a bank account, get finance etc or am I wrong about that??

I like how the media is playing the "racial profiling" card on this subject....yeah, like it doesn't happen already......

Moving to mexico - 05.18.2010, 12:29 AM

Dear President Obama:

I'm planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me.

We're planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico , and we'll need your help to make a few arrangements.

We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws.

I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Calderon, that I'm on my way over?

Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. Please print all Mexican Government forms in English.

4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.

5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.

7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico , but I don't plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won't make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my housetop, put U S. flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.

13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy.

14. I want to receive free food stamps.

15. Naturally, I'll expect free rent subsidies.

16. I'll need income tax credits so that although I don't pay Mexican taxes, I'll receive money from the government.

17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Government pays $4,500.00 to help me buy a new car.

18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I'll get a monthly income in retirement.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who walk over to the U.S. from Mexico . I am sure that President Calderon won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

Thank you so much for your kind help.

You're the man!!!

The big picture. - 05.18.2010, 12:47 AM

The whole thing is just a big bunch of crap IMHO. Like stated previously the laws are and have been in effect for many years, and AZ just copied what was already in our federal statutes and made them local state laws in order to give them the power to act on those laws within the state Gov system. It has also been stated that if you read the laws as written there is previsions to prevent racial profiling. So the whole arguement is another piece of crap for the ACLU and NAACP to use as a tool to overthrow rules that the majority of the people in the USA want. As I have stated in previous threads I just don't see what the stand on this is. If anyone arrives here in the USA they have the same chances as everyone else to apply for citizenship and go through the legal process that was setup in the first place to become a part of our country. If you (black, white, yellow, red or whatever color your skin is or whatever God/religeon you believe in) cannot follow the rules setup in our country, then get the hell out. How can anyone really find fault in that process, and wage a legal arguement that has any merrit what so ever? Who in the hell is running this country anyway? My best friend always jokes about how I should not worry, because OBAMA is going to fix everything wrong with this country. What a joke.

Maybe I should rephrase what I said before- 'laws that apply to everyone' should be 'laws that should apply to everyone'. Something that gov't's struggle with.

I'm not too sure of the technicalities like that but like BG said the law will accommadate them to a degree. A bit like rewarding them for avoiding laws that apply to everyone else. Even when they do go through a legitimate course and get knocked back they just apply for an NZ residency and pop over.

You have to admit we are soft here. Boat people bypass several countries that take assylum seekers just to get here. If they are granted never mind the the rental crisis, they get a place to stay and gov't benefits all layed out for them in their own language.

I used to think my dad was harsh when he said 'shoot them out of the water', but make sure it got on TV that would send the message to stay where they are.

'Laws are in place for the obedience of fools and the guidance of the wise', that's bullshit people are always going to wrought the system.

I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm not against immigrants (my wife is testimont to that) I just don't like people who have blatent disregard for the laws that apply to everyone. Including those that come on the plane.

Yeah, it's a tough situation with the boat people. On one hand you have people risking literally everything to come to a country they think will offer them & presumably their families the opportunities & security they want. On the other you have genuine refugees seeking asylum from persecution...if caught, they all get locked up for processing & hopefully they weed out the good from bad

I must admit, I'm not too keen on immigrants (legal or not) who isolate themselves into their own communities, don't bother learning the language, treat our country like their former country & hate everyone except their fellow countrymen...if we're all so bad - why the hell did you bother coming. Happy to buy them a plane ticket "home" to make way for someone who actually appreciates being here

I had a casual employee who gave me some of that one day...ranting and raving about how crap Australia was...couldn't wait to leave for freakin Lebanon of all places...he was instantly pushed out the door, followed closely by his bag full of hair products & car theiving tools...ta ta

If you were to go on a vacation you would do your research first and make sure that where you are going is safe, and has a vacancy for you right? Plus when things are tough here in teh USA do Americans jump on a boat and head for Cuba? Hell now we figure out how to overcome the issue and move on. Why can't they do that in their own country and stop thinking that the USA is their only savior.

I agree totally. If you wish to reside here then learn the friken language or go back where you came from. A visit is one thing, but to stay here for years and never learning English should be a crime in itself. If you want to become a citizen of the USA, then you should be given one year to learn how to speak enough English for us to understand your speach or go home and don't come back until you can speak it fluently. As for how some of these communities spring up of some other nationality and don't want anyone else around. As long as they keep things on the peaceful side why not. It happens in every level of nature in all species.

I haven't verified if this quote is true or not, but I liked it:
Quote:
'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
I was also watching the show "America: How we got here" on PBS (or discovery??), and there was a similar statement made by one of our founding fathers. I wish I could remember what it was and who made it.
