This is simple guys, Arct1k explained himself and that is fine. While it's fine to beat on MA it is pretty much a issue at this point.
Josh is gone and that's good to know.
Meanwhile I think it is rather rude of people who are quite new to this forum to come on here and act this way especially towards Arct1k. If there is ever a place and with a bunch of mods who don't let it get to their heads it's here. Especially Arct1k and BrianG who are about as laid back as you can get and both great guys.
This forum is also probably the most open about letting people post how they feel but everyone expects you to do it in a non flaming constructive type way. Most if not all of the long time members here like to keep everything here calm and comfortable. While we have debates and discussions it they are done in a mature manner and do not involve personal attacks and/or flaming.
If you want to see people ragging on others just for the heck of it with little moderation go to www.pirate4x4.com and post or just read. They even have an rc section, however flaming is a past time over there so you have been warned appropriately.
While I may disagree with closing the thread as he did I completely understand why it was done and will respect that.
Thanks Arct1k and keep on keeping on!

I really wouldn't call that a slip since ALL lithium cells are made in China and/or Korea. So basically it isn't really news.

Everybody chill out.
I have uncovered something... disturbing about Maxamps and their operation- I believe this qualifies as 'contributary' to the whole 'why maxamps sucks' argument:
http://www.rcbros.com/forum/forum_po...?TID=6922&PN=1
The critical part:

"The only reason why I ever bought MaxAmps packs was because all of my friends and other people I've raced with have told me that they're the best. At one point they were, but the last few packs I bought from them aren't performing as well as they should.
My friend's 3s Lipo couldn't handle any large amounts of discharge and would put the esc into false LVC, my RX pack for my 8ight-T doesn't keep it's voltage as long as it should, and now it seems like the lipos for my mini aren't lasting either. All of these packs weren't very old either. It's funny that Dirt tells me his HobbyCity ones have lasted over a year, and they're a fraction of the price?
What's funny too, is that MaxAmps operates out of a frickin' 2 car garage, I swear to god. When my dad gets back from his business trip, I'll get the pics from him because he visited them on a business trip to Spokane. They have three guys with some stations, and a seperate room to do packaging. The worst thing is that they order their cells in bulk from China, so their packs are literally the exact same as everyone elses except the shrinkwrap. And their so called "Water-sealed Packs," aren't even waterproof. They told my dad himself that they believe it's waterproof, but haven't gotten around to testing it yet.
I don't want to pick sides, but I don't like them because of their ridiculous prices. I just wish they wouldn't charge so much when other companies charge hundreds less for the EXACT same packs! Does anyone know of any other good batteries out there?"
Here's the Pics Blizzard was talking about. The battery packs themselves were in boxes marked "Made in China"
|
So, bulk ordered/ purchased cells, from China, assembled by 2 or 3 guys in a garage = high quality matched lipo packs worth 3-4 times what a comparable HobbyKing or similar YesHobby / AcePow lipos cost? Me thinks not

Why is that disturbing in any way to you Neil?
I'm in no way CAN I be considered a fanboy but what a lot of people forget is the advertizing of companies such as Maxamps in magazines, web sites and competitions pays for those things - That money comes some from people paying higher prices for packs... Good on them I say...
PS Have you seen Mikes place... He'd kill to work out of a garage like that.... :)

Personally, I could care less about them operating out of a garage.
Google started in a garage, apple started in a garage, compaq started Rod Canyon's house, dell started in Michael Dell's dorm room at UT, Microsoft started in a garage, OCC started in a garage, Honda started in an apartment, the list goes on and on.........
Humble beginnings start with the simple blow of a horn........

I remember seeing a picture or 2 at some point. I have always been amazed at what comes out of the most unsuspecting places.
Even check out CC, look what they operated out of until just recently.

I can guarantee to anyone here and else where that Max Amps wouldn't have been around if the 2 and last packs I bought from them had burst into flames. What would you have done Chris, if that one pack posed any danger to your loved ones?
Also, keep in mind that MA was busted by a fellow member for selling low C rated packs with much higher advertised C rating. I would rather have people bash a unethical company like that then support their illegal actions. Maybe they change for a better company.

Everyone knows the best cells come out of korea. Chinese cells tend to be of zippy/turnigy quality across the board. All your top end packs are korean. This isn't really news to anyone. What is news is that maxamps lipos 'teh best in teh world!!!!11' are chinese. So straight away are never going to be of exemplary quality.
I'm going to comment on art1ck's situation, which is actually sickening, he has been offered
a new pack for 50% because the battery that puffed... was a replacement for one that had already puffed deary me. At that point i'd be offering 2 packs for the price

Being a mod gives them the right, and I think those guys do a darn good job around here and are very fair and reasonable about what they allow and disallow. This forum isn't a democracy, what they say goes.

It doesn't seem to me like you've looked around here that much. ONE thread got deleted. This forum probably has the most criticism of MA out of any RC forum on the net, and it has all been tolerated until now, when it was (rightly) determined that it was a "beating a dead horse" situation. I have been guilty of it myself, and agree that it is time to just let it go and put our time towards more constructive discussion.

Bleh, my point was that given the prices MA charge & the level of sponsorship they dish out, you'd expect the company to be operating out of a much larger/ nice warehouse or workshop, not some ass-hat's garage with his home & offices upstairs. Granted its a nice setup, along with his track in the backyard, but seeing mountains cells in boxes and a few supspiciously hippy-looking guys with cheap irons assembling these 'best on the market' lipo packs gives me the chills.
Mike on the otherhand makes great value, high quality parts, so operating out of a dingy workshop isnt such an issue- maxamps just cant justify their prices or ratings on their packs; I'd have thought such extortionate prices would put people off the hobby, not encourage them to join...

I'm not surprised about the garage, I was going to say the same about Mike's place. We tend to think all these things are coming from big businesses in commercial parks, but a good deal of the RC product providers are small time hobbyists just trying to contribute to the hobby (some more than others tho.)
On the upside Neil, just think of the low barrier to you to becoming a worldwide lipo mogul. ;)
What amazes me is the amt of money that flows thru that garage. Alot of money coming in, but I'm sure quite a lot flowing out in advertising costs. I don't know that anyone has as many ads, even some of the OEMs.
Otherwise:
How does a 50% discount after 15 cycles square w/ the 300 cycle warranty? Bit of a let down it seems.

I would guess Arct1k bought the packs before they started including the new warranties.

That, and more importantly, why have two packs puffed in the first place? Super high quality cells in well built packs should not be puffing with a Medusa 36-50.

As reported in the "closed" thread, the reasoning was, they could only offer 50% off a new pack, because THAT pack was already a warranty replacement pack.

I buy what I can afford. That is all there is to my hobby. If all batteries were the same price as Maxamps I would probably still be using nitro.
Also, Hobbycity has been filling in some add space in my rc magazine for the last couple of months now. So they aren't the only one getting all of the audience.

I have some polyquest packs, on the heatshrink it said made in korea, on the individual cells it says made in china.
Personally, I have no issue with Arct1k deleting a repeated and pointless theme. I find it strange the OP says to PM or elevate to Mike, yet this thread has taken off. Again, I have no issue if it gets deleted.
