Couple of question.... - 06.18.2010, 10:41 AM

Hello,

Back to rc after taking a long break from it, so if some of my lingo, and terms are not correct forgive me, as its still coming back to me.
Ok here is the deal. I purchased a rc8te, I have just finished building it. I have not run the car yet at all. I noticed that the front right wheel has a tad bit more slop in it then the left one. Upon closer looking, I noticed that the ball end on the right side has just a tad bit more play in it then the left side...is this normal? How much wheel slop is acceptable. I have been out of the hobby for quite some time, and surprised that wheel slop still exists. I would think that by now manufactures would be able to eliminate or greatly reduce wheel slop, as its one of the biggest contributing factors to how a rc car handles.....what can be done....aluminum ball ends?? I dont know if the even make them...

Also.... I noticed that my rear driveshaft is not completely straight. It seems as if its a tad bit warped....is this normal or should i send it back to AE?

All the ball ends you assemble yourself will have some slop. If you struggle to get them together, the slop will be worse. If you can pop them in real quick, it will minimize the slop, but slop will increase with wear over time. One thing I have done for rigs requiring more precision, is use Dubro ends that are already assembled as they have much less slop.

As far as the driveshaft goes, get in touch with AE, they should take care of you.

Hmmm thats kind of funny that you said that because on that side, when I went to snap ball end on to the ball it didnt go on all the way right away, kind of like have on....I didnt notice it untill the next day, then i snapped it into place. I think this is the reason why there is more slop on that side....what do you recomend for my truggy. Just get a new plastic one, or do something like the dubro...it just seems that having steering play even if its a little, would be enough to mess with the way the truggy handles....maybe im way off..

Yep, you could replace it, it got stretched out. A small amount of play doesn't seem to bother me in 1/8th buggy and truggy set up for racing. Now, in my 1/10th touring car I use the dubro ones, no room for error @ 60+ mph. Give it a drive, see if you can even notice, replace as necessary.

Just run it. You wont even notice it when you drive it.

Get a little dirt on the truggy and these little things wont bother you any more either.

BTW... Welcome back to the sickness we call a hobby!!!

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...
