gearing question... - 06.30.2010, 11:11 AM

I have a quick question on gearing. Is it overkill to run a 25t pinion with a 51t spur in my GTP? I am currently running a 2200k MMM.

That would put your final drive ratio at around 6.3:1, which is pretty low. Starting to push towards 65-70mph only running on 4S (I'm guessing 4S?). Not good for much else besides speed runs.

That's what I run.

It's too fast for racing unless it's a huge, high-traction track. It's good for bashing on 4s, and speed runs on 6s.

Assuming you can find some traction, yes.

I have trouble on hot pavement with Ipanema slicks... It still wants to spin out all over the place. That's with 6s 5K's, MMM, and a MR 36-80-2000. I'm sure it weights more than yours, too.

Also, buy this: http://cgi.ebay.com/OFNA-31295-Rear-...item3a59d92a59. I installed mine last night. It makes a huge difference in tunability as well as removing all of the side play in the rear arms.

Nitro,

A 36/80 will just about spin anything. I have a Medusa 36/60 3100 in another lightweight rocket...I love it. Yeah traction is an issue. I was also looking at Ipanema treaded wheels and the body that they sell.

25/51 should be a rocket!

I have a GTP roller on the way and thats the gear ratio I'll be starting with on a different power combo.
