Need help deciding on new vehicle...revo? XTM RAIL? Muggy/Truggy?

I am looking for ONE rc vehicle that can be used for all of my rc needs. I definately want a monster based truck as 80% of what I will be doing is offroad bashing (fields/grass/gravel and just general driving around some woods). I do like trying to crawl up wood piles and rock but nothing super hardcore.

I also like to strap on some street shoes, slam the vehicle and do some high speed runs and carve up some asphalt.

Most of all I need a vehicle that is DURABLE so that I am not constantly wrenching. I just bought a house (foreclosure... other hobbies are on the sidelines as working on the POS is a full time job in itself) and when I want to run the truck I want it to RUN!

I purchased a ERBE roller a few months back but never got around to a BL setup for it. I have run BL revo's in the past and LOVE the suspension but sometimes the durability was questionable. So I could buy an MMM combo or RX8 combo or I could sell it to help buy the new vehicle.

The new XTM rail looks very sweet and is near the top of the list BUT I cant find anyone that actually owns one so im a bit worried about dropping the coin without some real reviews.

I would like to be into the setup no more than 500ish total including everything. I have no problems with lightly used stuff and with that price range its probably the only option to still be able to pick up 1 or 2 lipo's.

Id go with a truggy....You can raise it or slam it depending on your needs....
If you get a revo you going to have to hop it up alot to get the reliability out of it...I know that from experience lol

He already has the Revo. Might as well stick with it since your not gonna set up a brushless truggy for less than $500 and you can't get a Savage Flux for less either. You can pick up a MMM/2200 combo new for about $250, possibly less if you hunt around, or pick up a used one for less. That will still give you money to get a good set of lipos.

If he already has the revo then yea but the revo isnt exactly the most reliable basher.....

You need?:
Roller
Motor
ESC
2 LiPo's / sets of LiPo's
Charger

You want:
- Offroad bashing (fields/grass/gravel and just general driving around some woods) 1. Truggy / 2. MT
- Bit of crawling 1. MT / 2. Truggy (Rock crawling with a truggy = no go since the diffs are often filled with thinner fluid than a MT.)
- Street 1. Truggy / 2. MT

A truggy seems to be the best bet, unless you like wheelies a lot.

You will definately have to look at used stuff (I mostly buy used stuff, often in good shape but just a fraction of the new price : I'm a student), but even than it will be hard when you need all the above...

Some guideliness:
Roller : $150
Motor : $100
ESC : $100
2* 4S LiPo's : $120
Total $470
Sell the E-Revo roller and invest that in a charger

Keep in mind that you will need tools, temp gun, maybe a LiPo voltage checker and some other small stuff.

Just keep your eyes open on eBay and RC-Tech. Especially on eBay you can get lucky :)

Based on your complete description, you either need a Muggy (extra ground clearance vs a truggy), or go balls out on upgrading that Revo.

I would buy a tough used competition truggy and convert it to brushless. The truggy can do everything, you can race with it (it's lighter than a MT/muggy) or bash with it, you can even make it a MT with heavy big MT tires.
The 1:8 scale truggies are mostly designed for heavy racing, so they are build like tank.
IMO, the RTR ("Ready to Repair" ) like revos or savages flux just can't match in terms of reliability and weight. I often bash with theses vehicles and they always have drive train problem in the conical... Theses trucks can't handle the torque of brushless motor, even with 250$ of options (let me laugh about HPI "bullet proof diffs" ^^)...
Look for a used mbx6t or Xt8, it should be plenty for you !

Don't laugh too much - my 8T diffs have a much higher failure rate than either my non bullet proof and BP diff's in the Flux.

Edit: A muggy is a Truggy - so not much reason to debate that. It just comes with the "MT" stuff already on it.

I have to agree that once you upgrade the balls out of the revo it is solid, and handles better than all other MT's out there. The only problem with the e-revo is the plastic chassis design is week. In turn, that weakens the bulkheads and diffs. There is a solution though. Conversions have a much sturdier chassis and are more durble, but still contain the same great handling of the e-revo.
Check out my Carbon fiber conversion, it is really great. I'm sad I have to part with it. It is really light for an electric MT, About 10 pounds with a 4s lipo (lighter than E-Revo). The carbon fiber chassis and aluminum skidplates really make it extremely durable, but it still has all the same speed and handling as the e-revo brushless edition with the MMM 2200kv system. I have upgraded the balls out of it, so it is a very good truck. I could hook you up with a deal that will keep you running for a year. All the extra parts, ESC and motor, lipos, actual truck, hitec 7955 servo, and even a spektrum radio and receiver if you want. LMK Thanks. This truck is super durable, I have bashed the heck out of it with no broken parts. It would be perfect for what you want to do.

no matter what you spend on a revo it wount take hald the abuse a bad truggy will take, i have owned afew truggys and afew revo's.

muggys are nice, i like mine but if you put real power in them the break too (ie 1717 on 6cell) and as cool as the muggy shocks are the bend very easly and the muggy is really just an overweight truggy

i will say this you can get a used truggy for cheep

I vote Muggy. 1520 on 6S and geared 40mph is a cool setup(like in low temps, motor 50°C, ESC 50°C, lipos 34°C all in hot weather, with stock 420 tires)

The CD makes it easy to powerslide on turns if you want and I love that. I also love how easily it jumps and lands(like the 8ight-T) Only thing I broke till now is a shock shaft(hit a post) Or get a truggy (definetly something with a CD)

Anyone have any insight on that XTM Rail? I cant get over the looks of it...im really digging it.

Who actually makes muggies? Are they built any different than truggies? I would assume not as truggy tires and MT tires are not THAT much larger/heavier.

What would be some good rollers to search on ebay?

I do have an Onyx230 charger and a couple of junky lipo's but was planning on spending 100ish on a couple of decent lipo's depending on what I need.

I would like to have a top speed around 45mph with great torque and pretty cool temps with 30 min+ run times (I know..I want it ALL, dont I!?)

And as far as not being able to build stuff for under 500... again I have no problem buying used so im thinking I should be able to afford most setup's.

I am an ebay fiend so if you guys throw out some search keywords for truggies/muggies would be great so I can start stalking!
