I killed a NEU a few years back using to long a screw. The symptoms sounded the same ?
ANYWAY,
I bought a 1512 2D in April, It crapped out for whatever reason. I sent it in early July and they emailed me saying the bearing and rotor was bad and it would cost $80.00.
I emailed them back, "I sent the receipt from purchasing it from you and it's abarely 3 months old. No warrantee or nothing" ??
Response "Since you recently purchased it we can make the repair for $50.00"
OUCH, that still hurts considering I babied the motor on 3s and in a light weight truck and only paid $109.00 direct from NEU ?
I sincerely hope you get a good deal or good news on getting yours repaired Ray ?

That's funny you should say that, it's one of the first things that popped in my mind while I was taking the 1521 out of the LST

What do ya think about the esc. location? There is almost an inch from the top of the esc. to the shock mount. It should get better air flow sitting higher than the "temporary" motor.

Bro... I can't believe Neu treated you like that? I have no personal experience with them repair wise, but still... 3 months old and no warranty? That's grounds for a beat down where I'm from! Lol! Still though... Neu motors rule. I would be willing to try a CC Neu though.

Bryan, Personally I'd be a little worried about the ESC getting clipped sitting that high. I have mine mounted on the chassis and dont have any heat issues, not only that but it does have a fan if it gets over 150F ?

It will not stop me from buying them. The few problems I had w/NEU mills over the years I'm more than satisfied that I'm getting my $$ worth. So a small expense here and there I can live with. But yeah, under 3 months with no warrantee did kinda blow

I'm pretty sure I said I didn't know if it would be warrantied. They have to look at the motor to determine what the failure was and what caused it. I sent the motor a week and a half ago so I still have a long time to wait before I get any news. To early to start bashing Neu here It's not my intention to make them look bad either. That motor was awesome, it's just that something happened to it and I still don't know exactly what.

Bryan... That's where my ESC sits for the most part and it's fine. My truck looks essentially just like this still, but not for long. It'll be more dialed in, detailed, and custom. But I have NEVER had a problem with my ESC sitting up that high. I prefer it actually. Since the stock bodies tend to allow for more splash up and debris, I'd rather not have my ESC sitting directly on the chassis. Maybe it would be ok if I had a better body though?
Bro... Yers sits on the chassis now that you've gone XXL, but it didn't when you were running the LST2 right? I'm pretty sure Bryan's is an LST2 no? And btw... are you ok with our "new design" then? Because the ESC will sit up in front of the rear tower like mine does now. You run aftermarket bodies too, so that probl helps.
MC... I'm not bashin' Neu whatsoever... just in case you were speaking to me. I was talking about Bro owning his for less than three months and having a receipt... and still having to fork out $50 to fix it when the problem was a bad bearing and rotor? That to me is disappointing to hear. If I smoked a motor and it was clearly "my fault", than I would expect to pay to fix it, warranty or not. But if a motor just dies while under warranty, you'd think that the word "warranty" would mean something huh?
Then again, maybe the policy is different for a Neu refurbed motor? Not sure if either of yours were or not. But either way... I would assume that Neu woudl take care of you either way. I can't think of any other brand of motor I would rather run to be honest! They are the best!

I got news from Neutronics about my 1521 1Y. It seems the stator shorted so they will be producing a new stator for it and it is warrantied so no worries. I just need some patience to wait for the motor to come back.

The motor is finally on its way back from Neutronics. Although the work they did on the motor was covered by warranty, I paid a grand total of a little over $50 in shipping fees. Now I need Castle Creations to come out with their new Mamba HV ESC.

I took the LST out yesterday for the first time since the motor came back from Neutronics. It didn't take long for the motor to shred the rear diff... again. I know that a lot of people have very good results with LSTs and they swear by them. But it seems mine breaks a lot. The more I used it, the less impressed I am with it. Maybe 6S with that 1521 is just too much, 4S is not quite enough for a 14 pound truck. So I feel I should try 5S but that means buying some more lipos which I don't feel like doing. I'm seriously thinking of selling this thing as a roller with the 1521 in it, a set of 3S turnigys and most of all the parts I have for it.

Man that sucks.
I'm running 8s with a 1527 in my 19lb truck with no problems. Now I am using the TiN Muggy diff gears - I don't know if that makes the difference or not.
If I were you I wouldn't give up on the LST just yet (since Traxxas has yet to release your upgraded erbe!) - but I don't have any idea what the problem is with your truck.
