I can't really get my outrage meter up on this one. I live where there are a ton if immigrants from all over (Phiily/NJ/NY) and everybody speaks some level of English (as well as a million other languages.) It seems like it pretty much takes a generation to integrate, but most people get there.
Anymore English is becoming the defacto world language and the language of prosperity. If you don't speak it, you won't go far in the global economy or in the US. That's incentive enough for most 1st gen families I've met to push their kids towards English.
Problem is there are so many immigrants all at once, we're a bit behind on the integration clock. Its happened before in US history (such as the hated Italians/Irish/Catholics) and this too shall pass.
