Lightbulb Ofna LX1-E Shock Upgrade. - 08.11.2010, 03:51 AM

After a trip to the track, and watching a flat landing from the cross-over let the buggy hit, bottom out and then flip over... and watching the FT RC8bE eat the bumps alive, I decided to upgrade the shocks... (I know this buggy IS NOT really competition for the RC8's but they should land the same IMHO)

Removed the stock Ofna 13mm "big" bore shocks and springs, and replaced them with... Hot Bodies True "big bore"
97mm shocks up front and the 112mm in the rear... Fronts are installed.. Rears should arrive tomorrow... Filled them with a bit of 50% Losi 50wt, and a bit under 50% Losi 30wt. its actually a 56/44 mixture which equals 40wt.

Links for anyone who may want to upgrade theirs...

FRONTS

REARS

Pics... Fronts installed... rears shown for size reference...

Shock kits come with all hardware needed for the swap.. its just 2 inserts...

Definitely a good upgrade. I did the same thing with my Jammin, but instead of Hot Bodies I used HoBao 17mm big bores from the Hyper 9.

Caster Fusion F8T - Serpent 811Be - Jammin X2 carbon e-GT conversion - Axial SCX10

10,000X better than before.. OMG!!! This buggy, (with proper tires) can easily be quite competitive... these shocks are the PERFECT upgrade... totally a different buggy... just phenomenal..

I didnt get any video of the buggy... and i'm not the best driver. I had my friend drive it, who typically runs an RC8b-E and he was quading the back straight which we previously couldnt do with this buggy... and he was doing it with my Supra sales "Falibers" ... we were both quite impressed at the improved manners of this 165.00 dollar beater buggy.. all of a sudden, it isnt so much like a beater anymore..

I'll get some pics up and i'll try for some sort of video...

DONE!!

Well, it's been done a while.. but just got it track worthy again...

re filled the shocks with 35w Losi all around.

Re-packed the diffs, 5k front and rear, 70% 5k, 30% 50k in center.... it blends to equal about 10k.

New shoes.. AKA I-Beams, "soft"

New wing (RC8e)

New body... 11 bucks on ebay.. LOL.. same auction is now 29 bucks.. weird.. i scored though... :)

I was going to match the paint fade to the ring on the shocks.. but the paint color ... the can i mean.. its was no good.. just spit paint on my floor... so.. it ended up getting what i had laying around... florescent blue and metallic black...

FRONT:

REAR:

Full Monty...

I love it.. for the price, nothing else is even close.... well.. you could get something used... but you risk buying someone else's headache.. I prefer to buy new.

I was running it with teh MMM/2200 combo... I have put that setup into my E-Revo... I switched the buggy to MMP/2650. I will gear it down some.. and when funds allow, change to running 3 cell instead of 4 cell... because i tell ya... the 2650 is a hand full on 4s... would be ok i think on a big outdoor track, but on the smaller indoor place we race, its gonna be WAY too much...

Prior to the swap, I had just changed the shocks... HUGE improvement.. Handled descent on crap tires.. i expect the I-Beams to work well for me...
