new/getting old brushless crap.. make a boat? - 10.28.2010, 02:41 PM

just moved and have a canal in my back yard. i have a Novak 8.5 brushless with ESC for my drifter and a Medusa Afterburner 2300kv with MMM esc on the buggy. DC2 digital remote. i havent played with either for about a year and curious if i could buy a few things and make a decent boat. i would think i need a hull and prop and driveshaft. thats pretty much it right? of course the spur gear or whatever.

any and ALL advice is appreciated.

I know a few guys around here run the boats, but you might have better luck checking boat-specific forums (I know Offshore Electrics is popular, those guys build some mean machines).

I think you will find there is more to it than just hull, prop, and driveshaft. You need a rudder and steering system and other misc. running hardware, waterproof radio box, watercooled motor and ESC, guys who know about boats could no doubt list more things you'll need.

You might be better off just picking up one of these (either the velocity mono or velocity cat) if you want to try out a brushless electric boat: http://www.minicatracingusa.com/

I've been thinking about trying one for awhile, someone else here got the mono I think and it looks pretty slick. Seems like a decent price, you would probably spend more trying to put something together with the brushless gear you already have, since it isn't boat or water-cooled specific gear.

holy jeez that thing is fast.. for 230 bucks..

i am looking to do something with what i have right now. i may just get some different tires and turn my buggy into a street mobile. when i was on this forum a few years ago i remember someone had a nice buggy that was made for the street. i have only dirt tires and spur gears and such. im sure for for a few bucks i can make it pretty cool for up and down my street. would be even cooler if i could turn it into a rear wheel drive one (simply take the front driveshaft off) and to some burnouts or something.. would be easier with non mud tires. i can do wheelies all day long with it as is but i go through spur gears daily doing that..
