i think i'm done with buggies....

i seriously don't know if i need my head checked out or not.

this summer, i got my first E-revo and i've been beating the piss out of it on a daily basis..... and haven't broken anything yet. nadda.

it's been more than 4 months since i got it. So what did i do?

bought 2 more. i have my basher revo, my waterproof revo and my race revo. i freakin love this truck. it does everything i've ever wanted in an rc.

i even liked it more than my RC8TE because it can utilize dual motors.

so, i have my losi 8ight that i have been using less and less. i seriously don't know if i want to hold on to it anymore. i've been trying to go over in my head what it can do that my revo can't...in any capacity. i can't think of anything.

so i may sell it. i need to free up some money for Christmas presents for a few good friends (family is already done) and i'm just trying to figure out if this is a mistake or not.

i don't really feel like i want to competitively race anymore. i have more fun bashing. last season i won my buggy points series and felt like i was kinda bored racing the buggies.

i figure if i wanna race again, my revo would get thrown in the truggy class, and i'm fine with that. i can keep up with most of the truggies there with my race revo. if i start getting burned i can always run my RC8TE again.

so my question is....am i nuts for wanting to walk away from buggies?

Buggies have never even appealed to me. Some tell me they are more nnimble than a truggie but I say no way. Truggies anre very nimble and when the track gets beaten up they can handle it and ask for more. Trugies can put almost twice as much power to the ground as a buggy can too.

If you have lost interest in racing the buggy then I see no harm in getting rid of it. You stilll have your truggy and revos. Have you ever raced your truggy? I like the truggy class at my track far better than buggy. The buggy guys seem way more hard core where as the truggy guys like to have a little more fun while racing. Last year we actually had two guys that would stop and wait for each other so they could race each other hard, and these weren't 9 and 10th place guys, they where usually the two battling for first. If you want to race you'll still have your truggy as you said. Ditch the buggy if it doesn't appeal to you anymore.

i raced the RC8TE in the truggy class a couple of times last summer and i gotta admit i had more fun there too. the problem is it's a really small class right now and they're still grouping the nitros and E-truggies together.

maybe i'll try to get a bigger turnout next year by racing that exclusively. i have much more fun ripping the TE or the revo around the track than my
8ight. i guess it helps the decision that my track is really built more for truggies anyway. huge jumps and lots of ruts. haha.

They put e-truggy with the nitros at my track too, there's only me and one other electric guy there (Stum, member here also). They also put the e and nitro buggies together. Racing an electric truggy against the nitros is more fun IMO, and is really no disadvantage at all. Stum actually won the class with his Tekno converted Eight-T 1.0 and I wrapped up the season with 3rd overall.

our track is only about 2 years old, and i think they're still finding their audience. the class that dwarfs the truggies and buggies both is the SC class. they had 70 entries in one race last summer. haha

i even tried racing the sc class, but was put off by it because the trucks didn't jump very well imo, and most guys were replacing multiple parts after every heat. i'd also like to see a MT class too because the track layout is really very fast with sweeping corners and big jumps.

i'm from VA, and dosen't it seem like there ought to be a bigger truck audience on the upper northeast? especially after the winters we've had?

The SC class is dwarfing all other classes everywhere! at my track we had a consistent 20+ SC entries every week. All but I think two guys that raced there also raced SC. I think it is a great thing for the hobby, SC is bringing tons of new people into RC.

Yes the SC trucks don't jump all that well but when setup properly for the track and if your track is built knowing that SC trucks will be running it they can still do pretty well. We didn't have too many people replacing things at our track, most failures where simply ball cups popping off, usually the turn marshals would be able to get you going again as long as you didn't lose an axle in the process. Other than that we only had a handful of guys that wound up with serious damage that couldn't finish the night.

So, uh, you like the E-revo. Boy that kinda sounds familiar. If you remember, I couldn't understand why you weren't running it when you were building those E-maxx's. I believe you said it was battery size, anyway...... :) 4 months with no breakage, you ain't trying hard enough.

Can't comment to much on walking away from buggies, but it doesn't seem like the walk back would be to long. If you ain't driving it, get rid of it.

Being from Massachusetts, the racing scene is ok, but, from Cape Cod where I am from it's non existent....too many blue hairs as well as the land here is so expensive that no one can afford to build a track here. The nearest racing track/series is about 2 hrs. from me so it's a tad unrealistic for me to race. I know in Connecticut racing is fairly big, but the rest of New England not so much which is disapointing seeing as I used to race and miss competing on a weekly basis w/the same group of guys.

Back to your original question....if you have lost the taste for it ditch it. Buggies are a dime a dozen and can be had cheap enough if you get the itch again. I actually converted my mbx-5 buggy to an on-road car due to the fact it was collecting dust

If you think you want to get out of buggies you are probably right. I usually feel the same way though. Not sure if I'm ready to quit something that I was really into at one time.

It was the same for me when it was time to quit playing football, racing motocross, and tournament paintball. I typically spent one more year than I really wanted to in each. However I do not regret it.

I am at the point now where I am considering giving up competitive rc crawling. It has had my full attention for 3 solid years. I think I really wanna get back into bashing a bit more. But not sure about giving up crawling completely.

yeah...i remember that conversation. i think that was right at the tail end of me running assamp packs.

geez...what a mistake that was.

you're right though...i was against the revo until i saw what packs DID fit. I can be really hardheaded sometimes.

I started buying hyperion packs and DrFizz got an e-revo that he really liked and i thought i needed to atleast try it so i got one used. the rest is history. i've bought 10 hyperion packs and 3 revos and i'm unloading everything else. kinda tired of stuff collecting dust.

but dude...this truck is the shit...i jump this thing 70+ feet in my lhs parking lot on a quarterpipe and it lands great and i can do that pack after pack after pack. 3 days a week after the store closes i'm there doing jump clinics. we've gotten quite a crowd there.

anyway, shoot me a pm sometime and catch me up on what you're up to.

yeah, you're right about them being a dime a dozen. i think i'm gonna sell it rtr with all my parts. it's in awsome shape...maybe someone will buy it as a Christmas present for someone.

What are you racing your Revo against? Can't imagine it can hang with e-truggies.


And I hear you magman... its pretty much non-existant here in Chicago except of course the track in Joilet.

that's easy enough. i'll take my camera tomorrow night and get some footage. There's usually atleast dozen people there watching who could do it.


like i said, i'm not racing the e-revo but i've had it to the track during practice with the truggies. they handle better, but they don't whoop my ass either. if i wanna race i have an RC8TE that can do the job.

Man I am so jealous. 4 Months and no breakdowns on the E-Revo. I can't seem to last through one battery pack with my Revo. Busted diffs, cracked bulkheads, licorice driveshafts (they have the same structural integrity as licorice IMO), bent stub axles.........there is more but I think I would just get angrier if I keep going. I am not easy on the truck at all but don't go driving it into solid objects neither.
On the other hand my friend has an RC8Be and treats that thing like absolute crap. He isn't very good at controlling it in the air so most of his landings are crash landings. He also manages to whoop my but on the hard stuff to by easily out accelerating my Revo. The only place that the Revo has an edge over his buggy is over the rutted and very uneven surfaces. The extra suspension travel and bigger wheels soak up the bumps much better. Also his upkeep is way less than what I have to fork out. Not talking about the breakages but consumables like tires and such. Everything seems cheaper for his buggy.

I still want a truggy as I like the size of the Revo and want something similar but the Revos weak drivetrain is just pissing me off at the moment. Want to get the RC8T FT and convert it. This way the two could share a lot of common parts. With the Revo I think I will change the motor back to stock, clean it up and then pass it onto my father. He is much more gentle than I so it should last in his hands. I still have another unused Revo that I will keep on the shelf.

You won't be disappointed with the RC8T, it's a beast of a truck and the drivetrain in pretty bullet proof. In two years of racing mine I broke about $50 worth of parts, broke a shock shaft, bent rear chassis brace, rear axle twisted in two, wore out the front center cvd, and one of the suspenion pin braces had to be replaced cause a screw head busted off.

@DS- I finally gave up on my helicopters and mini revo, they where cool for a bit cause they where something different but I ultametely wanted another MT to go out and bash with. Racing is fun and all but the competitiveness sometimes takes away some of the fun. Bashing is almost like stress relief, so I bought a Savage Flux
