Programming Questions - 12.11.2010, 12:15 PM

I remember my old castle had a USB programmer.
I was wondering, What operating system do you need for this?
I can use a windows PC if have to.

Peace!

Wow, you must have been out of the loop for awhile! All castle escs are programable with a Castle Link. I imagine you must be refering to the Mamba Max as your old castle. The MM only needed a usb cable. Now you need a Castle Link or the field programing card. The card can be used on its own, no computer needed, and is very handy. However to use the castle link to program advance features you will need a windows PC :-( I just went out and bought a windows netbook two weeks ago so I can do that. Castle really should make a Apple friendly program

No job for about 3 years except a small 4 month project contract.
I got a few bucks and want a new esc for 1717 motor coming.
Figure the MMM would be great for 4s to 6s operations.
Just not sure what I am going to build up yet to mount it all in.

Peace!

Well there is the programming card too.

And really what needs to happen is MS just needs to put together a full .NET VM for Mac OS. Silverlight is already about 30% of it. Then there wouldnt be an issue.

You could also try getting a cheap copy of XP and running it in VirtualBox, etc. Nothing fancy here except for the USB connection so it should work. Or of course use BootCamp.

I have the programming card and it has been helpful but to take advantage of all the new features such as the timing advance on the MMPro and torque control you need a PC. For the amount I have invested in RC and the number of castle esc I have, 5 I think, and my Eagle tree, spending $260 on a netbook isn't that bad. Plus I can use the netbook for a few other things that I don't want to tie up my main laptop with such as playing music. Also I will feel much better about having a cheap netbook at the track than a $1300 macbook pro

Yeah, probably better than any laptop... especially overpriced MBPs. ;) [sorry, couldn't resist the jab! :)]

Jab all you want! At least my MBP doesn't give me the headaches that my windows laptop gave me. For that matter this netbook is the first that I have used windows 7, it's a step backwards from XP IMO.

Before it gets off track...

OP you have the following options:

a) Use a Win7 computer (or netbook)
b) Use an OEM copy of XP in VirtualBox, VirtualPC, etc. Wine my work too.
c) Use OEM copy of XP or Win7 with Bootcamp.
d) Use the programming card.
