Team associated trying to break Rc speed record - 12.15.2010, 10:43 AM

They are shooting towards 200 MPH.

http://www.teamassociated.com/road_to_200/

Looks like they signed Nic case, the stream liner looks like the same body shell, color and sponsors. Driveline looks based on the tc5.. But Im not sure how a belt would fare at those rpm's

@ snellemin: hehehe...

The end of the clip where the car went flying into the air looked painful.

I noticed that too. It went from being an extremely fast car to a very poorly designed plane very quickly!

Maybe they should find someone with a clue about aerodynamic and look at real vehicle that run at Bonneville salt flats. That huge front nose must create a huge aerodynamic drag

I was reading an article on Nic Case's work. all of his aero work was done in a wind tunnel.. Front surface area is relatively low. and what little there is has been designed to provide downforce.

What Nic had to say:
Quote:
Here is the latest on my Streamliner build.
The car is coming along nicely; Area 51 Design Works (Associated) is doing an amazing job with all of their support. I’d imagine this will be a “rock-solid” car – once on-the-way. With all the input of experienced, talented individuals – the possibility of reaching 200mph with an R/C car, is in reach.

On August 15th, at Heartland park dragway -- we will find out if this beast can do it.
The power of a 1521 Neu motor, 12 cell PowerEdge Lipo battery, and the sophisticated power management of a Castle Creations speed controller, will be the propulsion of this wheel driven creation.
The Vulcanized tires are still in the making… The body will be the same CFD developed one as last year. The gears are the finest made – 32 pitch hardened steel, by RW. The radio will be the longest range I know of – the Fasst System from Futaba.
Here's his old car.

Im really surprised that he went away from Flight Power to a company that I have never heard of (And i have been around for a while)

I wonder how those cells compare to the FP's

It's an evolution of his first one that was actually very closely modelled on JCB DieselMax that set a new WLSR at Bonneville

The underside of Nics car doesn't show the venturi's as well as the photo above but you can see evidence of them in the photos Ben posted

How do you out-engineer the laws of physics?

You look at Indy car,F1 and the Bonneville salt flats all those use a front nose like a air plane have the lowest possible amount of aerodynamic drag on the front.Even look at ThrustSSC(worlds fastest car) and you`ll see what I`m trying to say.

Erevocanuk, the problem it that the minute physics of aerodynamics do not scale as perfectly as we thought even ten years ago. That's why F1 has a new variation of their wings and body nearly every year :-)

I think in Nic's design you can see by the open rear section that they are going for a heavy negative pressure under the entire body as opposed to wings and such to create downforce at the cost of high drag.

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...
