Slipper Issues

Any of you guys running the 1520 or larger motors experiencing any slipper issues? I don't know if maybe these motors just have way too much torque but I can't get the slipper to hold. I have the slipper tightened to the point where the the spring is pretty much crushed and I'm still getting major slippage. I can feel it slip on moderate acceleration, even worst if I try to punch it. I couldn't even wheelie if I tried.

What slipper are you running?
I not sure if the Esavage or nitro savage is different.
Did you take it apart and see if you maybe have cooked it to much?

Check the slipper clutch pads?


Or just change the sring on clutch for a stronger one?

The last 2 pads were brand new and they really dont looked cooked. I feel the slipping though. I can't tighten the nut anymore. It's as far as it'll go.

I was using the stock spring then I tightened it so much it flattened the spring. Went with a black spring from a nitro Savage and same thing.

Noticed it's pulling hard to the right on acceleration. Maybe it's my diffs. I'll have to take everything apart and take a look.

I changed my pad, torqued down the nut to the max and used threadlock on the nut aswell. No slipping with the 1520 ever.

Could it be the steels are polished to the point that they have no grip? Try to rough them up with some scotch brite or sand paper.

i would buy a new slipper pad and tighten the nut down as much as u possibly can with out breaking the shaft, that worked for me with a 1518...

They were all new slippers and tightened down as far as they go like I said earlier. Starting to think it might be something else other than my slipper.

That's a good point. I'll have to give that a try.

try sanding both the pad and the steels. Or you could also turn the steels around, they are not as smooth on the back side

Uhmm...be careful on this. If You sand the steel it will became quite rough, so that at first spur slipping it will wear out the pads.

Try also to use a stiffer spring.

Are You using a genuine HPI Spur ?

I'm asking this because in the past I've used a GPM Delrin spur, just to discover that the pad housing was a bit too deep and the pad didn't have enough grip on the steel.

it needs to be rough so it doesnt slip. The slipper on a savage is garbage and should just be locked down tight anyway. If there was a way to eliminate the slipper on a savage I would.
