Futaba Trade Rebates through April -
01.31.2011, 08:05 PM
I just found this rebate offer on trading in another (major manufacturers) 2.4 system for a new Futaba 2.4 system. I can get a 60 dollar rebate on a 3pm-x and with my discount from Tower I pay about 95 for the system. That's cheap!
I've got an airtronics 2.4 setup that I bought used for a song and will trade it in.
Anyway, here are the details on the Futaba site for anyone looking at upgrading:

The way I read it you aren't actually getting a discount on the new radio system. It's just a store credit toward a future purchase. You have to buy the new system, fill out the form, send it in with your old system, and THEN you get your rebate. I suppose if you used it to buy more recievers then it could qualify as saving money.

True, but I prefer saving money up front rather than- "Buy this, get this free!".

I see, so that same hooker upsold you too. Get herpes now and qualify for crabs later. Happened to a friend, and thanks to her he met his ins deductible in only 2 weeks.

I can see a few instances where this would be worthwhile, but many where it wouldn't. I guess it all depends on what radio you have to send them, and what radio you want to buy. It doesn't make sense to send them a radio you could sell for $100 cash, just to get $100 rebate you can only spend on Futaba. But if I could get $200-400 rebate for a radio worth $100 cash, then I would consider it.

Seeing that the 4pks goes for around 500 bucks, you could scare up a well used or broken 2.4 setup for around 50 bucks or less and get 150 back from futaba. That would save you around 100 bucks. 20% off. Worth it? Maybe.

Seeing as it's always nice to have extra receivers, even if the rebate restricts me to futaba stuff, it's still a good deal.
Like linc said though, you can easily get a 2.4 radio of the brands listed for 50 or less, or if you have one you just want to trade up. The airtronics I have probably wouldn't fetch near 50 seeing as it's pretty basic and outdated compared to what's on the market now, so it's till worth it to me.

What would be some cheap 2.4GHz systems to look for if I wanted to do this trade-in program? On the form it asks for both TX and RX, so you need both right? Or can you get away with just sending in a TX?

Check out anything by the approved manufacturers on the list. I would just search around. Many of the 1st generation 2.4 systems can be had pretty cheap since there is so much on the market now.
