This is sorta brushless related...as I believe my BL power is what caused this.

Somehow I busted a MIP CVD on my FLM Pede:

Notice the nice split in the steel and the lovely curved pin.

I was driving it on flat ground with only a 6 cell pack when this happened. My power is a Feigao 540 8S and Warrior 9920 running on 6- GP3300 matched cells.

Any idea what could have caused this?

If it came out of the diff cup part the way it could have happened.

To me it looks like thats not torque thats done that. I think its more likely that there was some kind of force acting sideways against the cvd (Most likely from drifting). I've never seen a pin bend like that before - large amounts of torque would make it bend in an 'S' shape, I can only think it is a sideways force thats made it bend like that.

I regularly bend titanium hinge pins in my maxx from high speed corners, where the truck wants to go one way and the tire won't let it.

That's a possibility. I was driving it on grass that's super short, like golf grass, but I never was on it real hard while turning. I guess the better question is this, how do I keep it from happening again? My hope is that the pin bent because the CVD itself broke, not the other way around. I'd hate to think I'll be replacing these things regularly.

It could be the other way round. The pin might have been bending steadily all the time, and eventually caused the cvd to crack. Anyway, this is very unusual and most likely due to a faulty cvd or faulty installation.

I really hope it's from a faulty CVD and not installation. I'd hate to think I was too dumb to put a grub screw in correctly. :027:

At any rate, I just picked up 2 new bones on eBay for it...figured I should buy an extra just in case. Now I just have to get some extra pins and hardware.

What really sucks is I just picked up the parts today to build my 8 and 9 cell IB3800 packs for it. I guess that'll have to wait till next week.

If the pin came loose and come out and hung on the suspension it would have bent the pin and cracked the axle at same shot. I have had the pin come loose before.

Sounds like a good explanation to me. I think next time I'll use regular blue loctite instead of what comes with the CVD's. Dunno if that will make a difference, but it can't hurt.

I always put a notch in the pins so it's a lot harder for them to slip out of place. Here are some good detailed instructions. http://www.hpiracing.com/walkthroughs/rebuild-cvd.htm
