Thats how I know to do it.

Run the black and red servo wires directly to the battery.

Leave the white (signal) wire in the plug end and plug that into the rx like normal.

Leave the esc plug alone so the esc's bec will power the rx with 6 volts.

Bottom line, if you're not sure your rx can handle HV don't do it.

I have bought the ice HV already... If it is not a good idea to run my servo of a 2s lipo, what should i run it off? Should i use a hump pack like nitro users use???

I haven't had any issues with 7.4v on the Rx. I run it on a Futaba 3pm system, and checked it on a RTR ofna receiver. I've never seen an actual post from a person who has fried a receiver on 2S lipo, only rumors...

You HAVE to run high voltage servos to do it though. I wouldn't even consider trying over-volting a standard servo.

I just picked up a few Hitec HS-7945SH servo's (400oz.in @ .15sec) for $79 each of eBay, so getting a single HV servo isn't much more expensive than a low end servo plus a decent BEC.

All the Castle Phoenix ICE HV controllers are void of a BEC and are Opto isolated, so it's not pushing ANY voltage to the receiver.

If I had to pick between a NiMh receiver pack (for 6v) and a BEC I'd go BEC. (The castle one).
NiMh packs are just too big and heavy for my rigs.

if you don't mind the size and weight of a nitro hump pack that would work great for you and your standard servos.

I see absolutely no point in HV servos except for rock crawlers and spec junkies. and Dr.Know, his style of over the top deserves hv servos.

I am running an ACE DS1015 servo... should i just try and get away with running a 2s lipo?

It has been 7 years since i ran nitro. I have forgotten what and where i can get a decent nitro hump pack...
Honestly i would prefer to run something like a 2s lipo below

yes you will blow it. they made the hv servos specifically to handle 2s.

A quick search says no on using an Ace servo with a lipo...

I would probably go with the CC BEC if your not in a good position to pick up an HV servo.

And you're looking at a CC Pro BEC if you want to run 8-12S.

For normal 6v servos, you could probably get away with 2s LiFe (6.6v nominal, 7.2v peak). After all, 5 NiMH cells can be around 7v fresh off the charger (~1.4v/cell). But LiPo with its higher peak voltage of 8.4v is too high for normal servos IMO.

Also, you may think the speed of the ace is good by the numbers, but that speed is without any load. Once you load it down it goes slower, and the less torque it has the slower it goes.

The HS with twice the torque is gonna move the tires faster with a load.

And I went HV for the lipo option, not the bling/spec factor. You can get a standard voltage servo with the same specs for around the same price.

I will definitely not be buying a BEC.

I will run a hump pack instead as it would be cheaper to run one. But what is a decently priced HV Servo??

Also, i cannot remember how long a hump pack charge lasts anymore... ;/ i may need to buy a few haha

Seems like I am averaging ~20mah a minute running two servo's, a fan, and the receiver. So I'd expect a 800mah lipo to last for at least a half hour in my rig.
I just charge the Rx lipo every other (motor) pack I run.

I couldn't find a better option for me than the HS-7954SH.

There are cheaper HV servo's, but I believe most of the time you get what you pay for.

I will also be powering 2 servos, and maybe a fan... but not initially.
I think i will buy a hump pack as it will be the easiest, cheapest way out of my problem. No need for a BEC, and one more castle item that could possibly fail imo and ruin my day out.

I can buy plenty of hump packs instead... and i still love my ace servo!

the hump pack I linked to was 1400 mah, good for an hour or more atleast.
