Ill be running up to 9s for now in my savage.
What will handle my situation better.

I am just wondering what is easier to wire up.

A more reliable BEC...

The CC BEC Pro says it only handle up to 6s for car applications??? but as i am using a place esc... does that mean it can handle up to 10s?

Is the CC BEC worth the extra $26.00???

which one is tougher...

Just the basic questions i need answering...

Yes - you're not using esc braking - so 10s would be no problem for it.

either would do the job fine.

I would use the CC unit because it looks cooler and you would be supporting a great company.

I've actually decided to get away from bec's entirely.
I'm back to using a 2S lipo pack unregulated with HV servo's.
The wiring is cleaner, it never fails, and the 800mah 2S 20/40C turnigy pack is so small and light I can easily find a place on the chassis for it.
The servo's don't pull down the battery very fast so I don't even bother with any kind of LVC circuit.

And they're $5...

I really like that idea!!! How do you get a second lipo wired up directly to the ESC... i have the space for a small second lipo, and would prefer it instead of running a BEC which is $40 vs $5 for an extra battery and cleaner, easier wiring.

Would i lose my third channel on the RX? or is there another slot?

The ESC's (even without BEC) usually pull their own power from the lipo's (what ever the ESC is rated for, i.e. my Phoenix ICE HV works on 12S lipo without getting power through the receiver and it has no internal BEC).

So you pull the red wire out of the Rx connector for the ESC and cover it.

The Rx lipo can plug directly into the "battery" slot in the Rx. Or you could use a "Y" cable on one of the servo's and plug it in there, if you don't have an available slot in your Rx.

EDIT: the turnigy I listed even comes with a receiver type connector already on it :-)

i have decided to opt for running an extra lipo instead of a BEC... thanks Drknow for the explaination! I do love your crazy 8s Hyper!

But i am a little confused about the wiring...

You have the steering servo going into the usual Steering RX point.
Then you have the ESC plugging in, but you disconnect the red power plug.
And then the RX lipo also plugs into another channel on the RX... i need a closer look at my RX. But that is correct yes?

Dr. know-you haven't burnt any receivers doing this? I thought 6v was a receivers max?

i thought servos operated at 7,4v so an RX should take the power right?

any standard servo will fry with just over 6 volts. Maybe 6.5 max.

DrKnow said he was using HV, or high voltage servos. There are a few brands of HV servos made specifically for 2s lipo. Hobbyking has a cheap version.

Just to let you know, I have used the HC hv bec on 8s lipo and it worked very well. I ran 2 servos, a std for brakes and a high torque for steering in a savage. I have not used the cc bec pro, so I have no comparison for you.

Some receivers do not like 7.4v... Max I run my rx on is 6.5v.

Spektrum rxs will handle about 9v iirc, I know they will handle a 2s lipo at least though.

IMO, Replace red esc(BEC)wire and let your rx run on 6v, Split the white signal wire from your servo plug, then plug it into rx. Then run the red and black servo wires to the new 2s lipo.
