tamiya tnx to brushless

hello.
i have a old tamiya tnx chassis sitting around that i want to convert to brushless.
do you guys think that will run ok on a single 3s lipo only with a vxl combo?
i have truggy wheels and tires making chassis lighter and don´t seem much heavier than my slash 4x4..

any help or opinions in what combo for 3s lipo and what motor mount to use here will be welcome.

I'm not familiar with the vehicle, but after looking it over on the Tamiya website I think you'd be better off with a Castle or Tekin 1/8 brushless combo on 4-6S lipo. Tamiya lists it as a 1/8 truck and it looks to be similar size to T-Maxx, Revo, Savage, etc. I don't think the VXL system would work out, at best it would get hot and be underpowered, at worst it would go up in smoke.

I haven't seen one of these converted before. There are a few different things that could work, depends how much you want to put into it. You could make a custom mount, and keep the transmission (although not sure the 2-speed would hold up or be the best choice). Or you could get rid of the transmission and go for a center diff with the RCM mount: http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail.php?prod=rcmcdmm You could also use one of the other mounts from a variety of buggies and truggies and use the center diff assembly from one of those.

I don't know if the RCM Revo mount could work, might look into that too.

thank´s for the info and at the moment the doubt is reaally if it will run ok on 3s lipo.
i was thinking buy a 2650kv castle motor and a hobbywing sc esc and run it on 3 lipo.
i like light setups and i don´t wan´t more that 30 to 40 mhp...

Universal center diff mount has been out of stock for several months.

The vxl motor would be a no go for over 30mph, unless you want to smoke it. 3s wouldn't be my first choice for over 30mph in a truck like that, but it could work.

Your best bet for a simple motor mount is just a "L" bracket style motor mount. Its cheap, easily done with hand tools and you don't even have to cut up the truck.

Weigh the truck without any nitro parts on it, and a few different combos or wheels/tires; we really need to see how heavy it is & will end up being before a firm recommendation on BL system can be made.

I doubt a vxl system will work though, not unless you gear for a maximum of 25-30mph and watch temps constantly...

i was thinking taking out the gearbox and mount a e-revo or e-maxx complete one because already have the motor mount included.
this one have 2 speed that make no sense on bruhsless and by the money i have to spend on a motor mount this looks a good solution. but the l bracket ideia for motor moun is good too.

i will weight the car roller and with electronics and check you guy´s later.

forget tamiya option.
i will get a roller e-maxx and try it on 3s.
it seems lighter and alot more indicated for this 3s setup.
i will spend more to put the tamiya brushless that buying the e-maxx.

I had an older TNX myself a couple of yrs back, for a Brushless conversion forget it. Parts would have to be custom made and the drivetrain wouldn't stand up to it. The newer style TNX's are ok the old ones are more suited to shelf queens or Vintage Tamiya gurus (of which there are plenty)

you could go for a really long run time setup with 2 3s 5000mah lipos in parallel. that would make for 45-60 minute runes.

Hello' I know this almost 2 months old. But I converted a 3.0 TNX about 2 years ago. I used a align helicopter motor mount. It will definitely fit the feigao size motors. I think they are 36mm. I ended up using a Hacker 3000kv motor which is larger. I just had to shim the mount. I used that because it was a spare. I used 2 7.4 cheapy 8000mah lipos. Only rated at I think 12c. I was stripping spur gears. So I went with the 5.2 35T spur gear. I modified the trans to a single speed. The hardest part was drilling the holes on the motor mount in correct location so it would line up. In this build I got LUCKY took me about 5 minutes, It was LUCK ok maybe some skill too. I had to remove some of the right side of the Trans case to be able to adjust the motor mount. Its kind of a pain but does work. Just need a long ball end Allen wrench. I still have it and love it. it was fast it was pulling wheelies on the original spur set up. I love it. Will be using it again hopefully soon. Its just that I'm in the middle of a HPI baja brushless conversion and a 1/6 Kershaw designs Revo. I would post pics but always have a Hard time doing so on any of the RC forums I belong too.
