Stretched D8T - 1/5 truggy on 6S - 04.08.2011, 11:52 AM

I've seen a couple of the buggy builds so thought I'd post early stages of my 1/5 stretched Hot Bodies D8. I need to add some more body mounting posts preferably attached to the chassis. Currently the body is only supported by four posts that rest on the shock towers. I didn't want to risk bending a tower during the test run so I took it easy on the big jumps. I guess I coulda picked a smaller track for it's maiden voyage - eh?

dang! that track is huge. Must be a 1/5th scale one huh? Bet it's really cool to be out there with fifth scale races.....
I gotta move somewhere....nicer, lol.
We got about 4" of snow last night, still falling. Sigh.

haha - I figured I'd post the thing running before I posted the hack job. You probably wouldn't have believed it if I posted the other way around.

Can't believe you don't have room somewhere for 1/5 up in MT. I guess the weather is the factor. The track is on the private property of PhatDad RC owner. He has special get togethers where he opens it up to the public every so often. He's been doing this for about three years now. Wish we had something like that available all the time.

Here are the pics. I used rear towers and shocks on the front end. Traxxas slash 4X4 mounting posts secured to the wing mounts. Drive shafts are TeknoRC V4 - off hand cant remember which kit they are out of. Center braces are REVO links. Wheels/Tires are HPI Terra Pins from a Savage.

The whole thing weighs in at around 15 pounds with battery, tires and 5T body.

Nothing wrong with that, not everyone can (or even wants to) build a new chassis. Besides you should see some of the contraptions I've come up with over the years! I once stretched out a nitro Revo chassis (electric conversion) to baja 5t length. It was funny seeing the blue chassis ends, and a whole lot of alum "L" bolted on in between!

Is it a D8 or D8T though? Put some braces on those chock towers and beat it up a bit!

Edit, I just noticed the D8T in the thread title, Duh!

room isn't a factor for sure. Probably just population density. It's pretty hard to get enough people together in the state that have extra dollars and are willing to spend it on RC.
Probably 10 hobby shops in the whole state that sell RC car stuff.....

Nice conversion...well done. In the future, are you going to make a single chassis or leave it as is.

How much did that body run you? I want to do a 1/5 conversion but those bodies are the most expensive part! Can't wait to see you really jump it!

Clever, Me likey.

The cost of those huge lexan bodies scare me, the only thing I see negative of this cool build.

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.
