Glass Desks - 05.08.2011, 07:31 PM

Kind of a weird topic, I know..

But I was at Fry's the other day and saw one of their glass desk's that really intrigued me.

I've always wanted a glass counter-top desk since I was a little kid, they just looked so cool!

Plus, it would ALWAYS be flat, wouldn't warp, and plus, see-through!

Anyways, I saw the "Merax/Meritline Corner Desk" which had 3 panes, and a "steel" tube construction.
http://www.meritline.com/computer-de...--p-23290.aspx

Being as it would be used for my computer & studying desk, it would also fit into the corner of my room perfectly, where my computer is already at, on a 9 year old dirty and unsmooth as ever cheap, wood desk.

Looked around, and found that desks like these usually go for ~$200, which really amazes me, considering I actually wanted a ~5-6ft glass desk, just a normal desk and use that as my computer desk, but that'd probably cost me an arm and a leg!

Would that Merax desk be a good buy then?
Any other recommendations?
Anyone else use a glass desk and any feedback?

Probably a long shot, but maybe...

I think my roommate used to have that exact desk....he liked, he's very metrosexual (I mean gay...but he's not out of the closet yet I don't think). Held up fine for his laptop, think he paid around 200 for it locally. Survived 2 moves. Dunno how well it's put together, I never used it personally.

Hey now!
What's that supposed to mean?

I see a ton of these exact desks that go for like $200 at places like Staples... when they're essentially the same thing, minus the brand name...

just meant a gay guy liked it, so it must be stylish, lol. My biggest concern would be the quality of the connections in the frame. That seemed to be the weak link in his. And of course dropping stuff on it...

I have this one. I like the look of the glass top. It's very sturdy, but it will "wobble" side to side if pushed.

It has plenty of room on top for a 25" LCD monitor and front surround speakers.

I used to use a glass desk. I liked that you could see through the surface, so I could post notes and other various bits of paper underneath see them, but still have a glass surface. If you know what I mean.

I have since changed to a very large wooden table (actually a "dining table" that seats 10).
