MMM Bec and Castle BEC problems - 05.23.2011, 03:02 PM

Hey fella's, I ran into a snag with my cars yesterday at the racetrack.

In my JQ Car, I have the following

MMM/1515 1.5d
Jr 9100s servo
16/48 gearing

The problem I was having is the lack of power all of the sudden in the BEC of my mamba monster. This is a re manufactured unit that I received when I sent in my last MMM about a month ago. The controller ran great for the first two packs (right when i got it) then the stering servo would lose power and my radio would start beeping at me signaling low voltage to the receiver. Thinking it was a faulty servo, I swapped between another Jr 9000s and a Hitec 9775tg, the problem persisted. I tried a different receiver, different transmitter. The BEC is the only common factor. I had to go around the track and find a receiver pack to continue competition. and with the receiver pack all of my servo's and receivers worked fine.

Is there any known record of the Bec failing on the Mamba Monsters? and is there any implemented warranty on remanufactured Speed controls?

This controller was straight from castle creations and has been in my possesion for less than 2 months..

I also had this exact same probem with a castle bec and futaba bs451 servo in my cousin's car...

Do you have a capacitor on the receiver?

I would try one all the same, then it that doesn't solve the issue it's time to send the esc on for repair/replacement again ( down time sucks but there you go.. )- might as well try to avoid the down time is my thinking.

Just run an external bec and be done with it

$25 and cheap insurance

I run one on all of my Castle ESC's

Similar thing happened to me.
I decided to use an external BEC instead of sending it for repair.

Did you try the capacitor yet? My truggy (MMM) does not need it, but both my buggies and SC truck do (2 MM and 1 MMP). Seems the high speed servos can be a bit more amp hungry than the high torque ones.

Same issue here. External BEC and all fixed. The servos would act up all of a sudden and then the receiver would brown out. Sometimes it would come back on and launch forwards for a split second too. No issues with the external BEC.
