OK, I'm giving in. I think I will just go with some 14mm wheels. I just bought a set from

I picked the "Indy" style.

Neil thank you so much for the tip to get the stripped retainer out. It worked like a charm. I don't have the Traxxas retainers, but I have the ones on my RPM's and they worked like a charm. Plus they look so much better being all aluminum. So I assume,(always gets me in trouble) that the Traxxas retainers will fit.

I have been seeing ads for those SPI wheels in magazines. When you get them, I would definitely like to know your thoughts on the quality.

Ooh yeah, nice choice indeed. it sucks having to buy new wheels but A) those are beautiful, seen a few guys running them over the years and they always look great and B) since they are aluminium and the hex is too, you shouldn't have any issues with stripped hexes, ever.

Any clues as to what size tires fit these wheels?

I just got notice that he finished making my wheels, and they will ship on Monday. Has anyone had experience with these wheels before? I asked him about the size of the wheels and he sent me a link.

the site just says e/t-maxx size. He said the Jumbo-maxx size will not work. I wonder if they are the old or new Maxx size. I hope that they are the larger new size.
Going back to the wheels, I got the idea from some thread in here.....I think. It was a guy from France and I can't find that thread. Do you know of the one I'm talking about? His Avatar is a picture of him sitting on one of his RC's ( a Bug body) or at least pretending to.

Hmm.... yes the Frenchie! Another build I have stumbled upon that I enjoyed. Here is the build and the Indy wheels are in the there towards the beginning or middle.

Here is a bit from the email I received from Rick (the SPI Racing wheels guy). I asked him what the dimensions were for the F-1 and the Onix wheels and what size tires fit them, and he responded with this...

"Standard Monster Truck size. 3.2 mounting diameter and 2.2 wide. All
of them are the same size. The big thing is the offset. 1-5/16 farther
out than stock. This is what make your truck turn so fast and keeps it

All the SPI monster truck rims are the same size - 3.2" outer diameter. So after a quick search through Towers stuff, I believe that the 3.2" are the old Maxx and 3.8" are on the new 3905 versions.

By the way I bought a set of the Imex tires (Claw Dawgs, soft). We will see how they compare to the Proline Trenchers that I have been using.

You'll like the clawdawgs- I run the jumbo version but they are very nice tires- very thick so they wont rip apart even if they balloon ( tape the insides to help reduce that- duct tape or gorilla tape works well ).

Gear or gears? - Not sure exactly what you meant there, but I have not ordered any SPI wheels yet, if that was the question. Still weighing out the options (14mm or 17mm ), and awaiting your feedback on the wheels.
EDIT: Oh, the Hot Bodies diff gears!! (Duh! - still sleepy) Yes, I managed to snag the last pair RC4speed had available and should be getting shipped out this morning. Thank you very much for the help on that one.

The Imex treads look sweet. I have never run Imex before so I can't really comment.

14mm or 17mm, it all just depends on what you choose. The only reason I picked the 14mm is b/c of my UE cvds. Otherwise. I would have gone with 17mm. With 17mm you will have more options.

Yeah, I can't decide. I have another 1/10 scale project running 14mm hubs so I could use them on both. But, your right about the 17mm wheel availability. I am going to wait to order them for now.
