Thanks for the great and helpful responses guys. The reason why I got the XL is because it has been used three to four times only and it was only $250 with a set of stock wheels and a set of HPI blast wheels with Goliath tires mounted to them. Just too good of a deal to pass up and I really want something that I could give my 1717 a home in. I know it is going to be an overkill but that is my style anyways.

As for the rpm limit of the 1717 I am well aware of that. I figure with a little bit of voltage drop under load I think I will be pretty much at the limit. Maybe a little bit over but I have faith in Castles build quality. I have ran their 1512 2650kv motor on 6S for ages and never looked like it was raising a sweat. Also I have read upon few others running the 1717 on 8S (one person on here in a much lighter Revo) and they have had no issues. I hope it works for me too.

With the chassis I am thinking of just cutting the bit where the motor protrudes through the TVP completely off and just bolting on another piece of aluminum that will be big enough to clear the 1717. It wont win any prizes for beauty but it should work just fine. If everything fails I will fit the 1520.

For the Flux HP I think I might fit the 1518 and try that on 8S just for shits and giggles. If that turns out to be too much (if there is such a thing) I can always stick the stock electrics back in.

Now it's a waiting game for my parts and MMM XL to come in.

And Scarletboa thanks for confirming the bulletproof diffs. It is indeed the 2.4G version and it mentions the BP diffs in the manual although the picture on the box (of the diff gears) is the incorrect one. The BP diffs use a 9T pinion gear and the one on the box shows more teeth than 9. At least the instruction manual is correct.
