hyper st gearing - 10.04.2011, 05:54 AM

hi looking for some gearing advice iv just picked up a hyper st it/s totaly stock bar the convertion im going to be running a savage flux system 2200kv motor+esc battery wise im planning on running 4s 2x2s 5300mah 30c im only going to be bashing but would like everything to stay cool and have good run times +be able to keep up with the nitro guys or just beat them on the top speed not by much so what gearing do i go for or should i say what gearing do you use on 4s cheers in advance

yes! Is that a 52t spur? And what tires are you running? Tell me that and I'll plug the numbers into the speed calculator, and BLAMMO you'll be geared for 40-45mph

yes its the 52 spur gear the wheels and tyres are the factory fitted jobbies i also have the 48 spur gear that i could change over if that makes much difference thanks for you help mate

No problem, I'm glad I can help.

A 15t pinion puts you at 40mph, and a 17t pinion puts you at 46mph. I would start with a 16t and see how it feels, of course checking temps often until you know it is a good setup. (it should be good)

Have you ever used the top speed calculator? RCM's own BrianG made it. It can be found in a sticky in the brushless section. Also here: http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/top_speed.html

If you know your specs you can just enter them in the windows, if not there are convenient drop down windows. Just input your data and it will show you the speed you'll get with different gear ratios. Use 3.7v/cell for the battery table.
