I think mechanical braking would be straight forward but I think I might miss reverse a little, I could live without it though I'm sure.
With 10S, you could use a pack(s) with less capacity. With 6S (22.2V) and 5000mAh would mean you have around 111w/h and you would only need 3000mAh with 10S to have the same energy.

I started with a little Jazz 10S, 40A Kontronik, but since it was a bit old, the capacitor blew. I later went with a Jazz 55A with 10S and it was a blast. Later runs was made with a Schulze 40.160 controller. Now I use my own controller and I mainly use my 10S ESC in my race truck with 8S 3300mAh-3700mAh and a Neu 1515/2Y. All my 8S and higher set ups stayed very cool. I now have a 1521/1Y that I run 5S (4500mAh) and 6S (5000mAh) lipos with, but that set up went on hold due to the higher voltage truck being so reliable.

I have a Neu 1527/1.5Y (825Kv) Smooth (New with connectors) that I was going to use when a new HV ESC I was planning on making, but ESC project got put on hold. If you're interested, send me an e-mail at brasuca2478@hotmail.com.
