Electrical Project... okay, somewhat. Not really. - 09.14.2011, 02:03 AM

Hey guys.

Friend's birthday is coming up, and her & I have a little inside joke going on; she's a unicorn.

Long story short, I wanna make her a unicorn horn, that lights up.
Here's the hard part.

I want it to either:

Light up when it detects sound (so it has to integrate a mic)

or, plug it into an iPod, and it flashes with the sound of the sound; but a small speaker must also be inside the horn.

And remember, it has to be wearable.. for a girl!

So I just don't know what speaker I'd be able to use, and what batteries I'd substitute in...

Or where I can even find a freaking unicorn horn.

It's just a fun concept, and if it turns out to be ridiculous, then I'll probably scrap it.

Here's something I came upon, which kinda gave me the idea..

McGruber says: Okay, but first I'll need a few things.

1. Paperclip

2. Rubber band

3. 2s lipo

But really your hat sounds close to one of those silly dancing fish wall plaques.(sound activated) Good luck on your hat quest.

OK

Step 1) Collect Underpants

Step 2) ....

Step 3) Profit!

Seriously though, they make shirts that glow to the beats of songs so maybe start there and make a cone horn...

They make lights that strobe/flash to the music for use in car audio systems. It senses the beat of music by some means, no connection to the music. I beleive they have ones that will even flash different colors. Something like this would be your best bet as all necessary electronics are there, you just need a clear unicorn horn and a 12v power source.

Reviving this thread, since I'm determined to make this happen!

I want to utilize this basic circuit:
But unsure where my changes would need to go.

But want to also include a small speaker (stole from an old telephone speaker), and instead of the 12V power source, use a 9V battery.

If possible, I'd also like to use one of these LED light strips too:
But I don't know if that would operate off a 9V?

"Large voltage input range up to 12V DC! (Great for 2-3S Lipoly)"

At 9V, you'd think it would be fine...not like you're trying to fry anyone retinas!

Sweet, so no messing with some resistors and whatnot.

Anyone got an ideas of where my changes need to be placed in that simple circuit?
