Maxamps has discovered 2P packs (New Product, DUAL CORE!!!!) - 06.28.2012, 06:21 PM

Got an email today showing off maxamps' brand new innovation! Taking something that's been around for a long time, and giving it a fancy name.

They call them, "Dual Core Lipos". (AKA 2S2P, etc...)

The 150C Dual Core pack offers the highest performance of any lipo battery available in the world. Rather than using one 8000mah cell, we take two 4000mah 150C cells and put them together in parallel. By doing this, the power load is split between two cells(cores) instead of one. Each cell has the thickest and lowest resistance tabs available. Not only do you get two cores, but you get 4 tabs instead of 2. This creates a pack with the lowest possible resistance, the highest voltage under load, and the most rapid voltage recovery of any pack we have ever tested.

50+mph in most brushless setups(7.4 volts)
True 150C rating
48 minutes average run time(8000mah capacity)
Lifetime Warranty
5C fast charge capable
100% waterproof
Built today with factory fresh cells
Built with genuine 12awg Deans Ultra wire
We add the connectors and balancing taps for you
137mm x 45mm x 33mm, 441g

2p packs cause many many of their earlier problems. The cells dont stay perfectly balanced and create problems.

Brandon posted them here already and I removed it. Tired of them peddling their crap here. All it does is create post after post of flaming and nothing good ever comes of it. I have no idea why they would even think of advertising their products here given the overall forum bias, but I guess negative publicity is good publicity.

more tabs which equal more solder joints offer the least resistance? They have moved from inflated claims to flat out lying to the public.

UNSCRUPULOUS. NO SCRUPLES AT ALL.

I got that email too, got a pretty good chuckle out of it!

@BrianG: instead of deleting brandons posts you should just make it so he can't post at all. He might get the hint then.

Leave maxamps alone! They have great products, and awesome quality service to go with it! I have used their products and they are nothing but innovative and cutting edge....

That would be Mike's call. I can imagine Mike wants to keep his login so that he can answer questions should they arise, but I do know from talking to him that he does not want gratuitous advertising.

I was not informed of this. I apologize. I will stay active here to answer any questions if they arise.

Thanks,

Brandon

That would be great if you actually answered the questions that we asked. Heck we are still waiting for answers to questions we asked you almost 2 years ago. Oh and did you finally get those graphs for us? Oh of course not. Keep on trollin.

It depends which way you look at it. Or it depends to what you are comparing. Here's how it CAN be true.

If the 1 8000 cell had the same size tabs as the 1 4000 cell then of course the tab would be getting half the load. It is my experience that the cell tabs are one of the first bottlenecks when cells are of great quality and loads are above 40C. This probably doesn't start to show up until around 30-50 C and these particular (true 150C) cells are going to overheat LONG before the cell tabs are of concern.

Here's how it could be NOT true.

If the 1 8000 cell had appropriate sized tabs (double area or circumference) then 1 8000 cell with 1 tab would be the best choice.

Here's how it is unimportant and meaningless well thought out marketing.

50+mph in most brushless setups(7.4 volts)
48 minutes average run time (1.25C average discharge)
5C fast charge capable (1p or 2p makes no difference at 5C rates)
With any 12awg wire
With any std connectors

So, when comparing to a 4000 pack of course this is a good thing , but so is a single 8000 pack. When compared to a pair of 4000 packs it isn't much better. When compared to a 8000 pack it is still no better.

You must be assuming that these cells can come anywhere near 50C while still holding something resembling a decent voltage...

Uh, no. Just the opposite. I predict these will overheat long before 40C. I guess another way to say it would be that the cell itself is going to overheat before the single/double tab difference kicks in (if there's any difference at all)

2 small single tabs or 1 bigger tab= no difference to me (or at least a very insignificant and unimportant difference)

The real question is instead of all the hype about 2p packs why not just state how much current one of these packs can do while delivering about 50-80% of capacity? That's what really matters. OR state the cell ESR OR produce a graph of around 200-500 amps.

I think their claim of less resistance is true. Think of it in a car audio point of view..... 2 4ohm speakrs run in parallel is 2ohms. So in theory if 2 cells are run in parallel the total resistence of the cells and the solder tabs/joints should be cut in half.
