UE 6mm CVDs question -
12.05.2012, 11:35 PM
I have a set of UE's 6mm Titanium CVDs, and I want to run 17mm hex wheels.
Anyone who has seen a set of these CVDs knows that they use the hex drive adapters that only UE made (at least as far as I can tell).
Therefore the axles don't have a hole for the standard pin drive set up like all the 17mm wheel adapters out there are made for.
So, am I SOL? Or is there something out there I'm missing? I've seen a couple custom made sets of 17mm hex drive adapters made specifically for UE's CVDs, out there, one that sold on the bay, but they were sold long ago!
Anyone have any info that can help? Or even better yet, a set they'd be willing to part with? I would really appreciate anything that might help.

The 17mm adaptors for the UE Cvds were manufactured by a UE member not UE themselves. The majority were made for the 8mm Cvds. The 6mm UE 17mm adaptors are more rare then for the 8's and a lot harder to find.
There's is a member at UE that made a different designed adaptor that would fit over any 14mm hex and adapt the end to 17mm. I don't know if he has any left or not. His username is uncleben or something close to that. I think he's in Sweden but he communicates in English.
I bought 2 sets from him and I have a set if the original 17mm hex for the UE 8mm Cvds.
Search the UE forum and see if you can find that adaptor, its probably your best bet. Or post a thread at UE wtb 17 mm adaptor, maybe he'll respond or someone else that has a set.
Good luck.

I wish I could access the UE forum, I get told to go there a lot. Despite trying to get approved, I do not have access...as is the case for MANY people, from what I have seen.
So, since I cannot even get to the forums, is there anyone that can who would be willing to check into this for me? Or maybe try to get me in contact with this person?...or anyone over there that could help me out?
I would really appreciate it guys

You have to email Robyn and tell him you're unable to sign up.
He'll unlock it for you.
May have to email him a couple times.

The new design by oncleben fits the 6mm cvd as well. But they are not cheap.. If i remember correctly the price was $85..saw 1set sold for $75 on ue forum. If you are willing to spend that much, i can help to ask bout this on the forum.

Signed up? -

Have you signed up on the UE forum? If so what is your user name? If you give that to me I can try to help you get in.
The info shared in this thread so far is correct. Gregers designed and had a run of 25 or so made, and quickly sold every set excpet for the ones he kept for himself. He is in Denmark and a great guy to work with. He may have another set still available, but you have to ask him. I bought a couple of sets, but have no plans on selling them. Anyway send me your user name and let me see what I can do.

Yep, I actually have signed up, I just need my account activated. I sent you a PM just a minute ago.
And thank you for the info. I would really like to get one set of these adapters.

The best -
12.06.2012, 03:32 PM
The best set of 17mm wheel adapters made for the UE axles were made by Sweetride. He made several sets for both the 6mm & 8mm axles, and they were made out of stainless steel. I have still seen a few sets pop up now & then for sale. I do wish you luck getting your hands on some for your project. Good things come to those who wait. It has taken me years to get my hands on some of the UE stuff I have in my collection, so hang in there.

Alright, thanks for the tip! Stainless ones would be great! But what are the chances of me getting my hands on a set of them, probably pretty slim by the sounds of it. But you are right, all good things come in time, if you're willing to wait. And I have time. I can always run 14mm wheels until then
I looked him up and is it sweetride4me?

Edit: Robin did get me activated by the way (which is how I was able to search and find that username). Thanks for the help! You have no idea how much I appreciate it. You guys are all awesome here, very helpful!

Yes that is the guy. He made quite a few sets and you will find a set sooner or later. And no problem at all. Helping out each other when we can is what makes the RCM & UE forums so great. There are a lot of great people on both sites and if you cannot find the answer on one of the two you might as well forget about it. I use to be a member on a half dozen sites when I first got into the hobby, and after the first year gave up on the rest because of all the rediculous rules and adolesent behavior. Besides RCM & UE were the only two places designing and making good quality parts for the Maxx line.

I apologize I missed this comment. I actually spoke with oncleben this afternoon (now that Robin got my account activated) and he gave me the username of a friend of his on the UE forum as well that he thought had a set for sale. So I shot him a message too. If that person ends up not having a set for sale, oncleben said he would sell me his last set.
Thank you for the info, you guys have been very helpful, I appreciate it!
