All the things wheelman used above are acidic compounds, and none removed the anodizing from Ti, so I'm gonna say the boat stuff probably won't work.

All I know is that the caustic soda/lye in the granular drano I've been using is what removes the ano from aluminum.

And that Alumabrite is the only thing that actually works for removing ano from Titanium.

I do not, however, know why. lol

Wheelman, how long did you leave the aluminium parts in the draino for. I am going to give it a go but a little worried that the draino will eat the aluminium

Don't leave it in very long. It does eat aluminum, I did a shock body, when I put the spring adjusting collar back on it would spin freely on the body.

I have used Drano and Easy Off on aluminum. 20 minutes is what I do. I have never pitted a part. The parts will be dull and gray when you remove them, just clean it up with some sand paper. Start with like 300 and move to 1000 until it looks shiny. lol I think overnight would do damage. I would be surprised if 1 hour would do damage.

I still haven't gotten any of that alumibright to try on heat colored titanium yet.

With the Professional Strength granular drano, I have yet to come across a part that takes more than 15 minutes of soaking to completely strip. I continuously agitate the container the part is in though too, just to stir it up and make sure all sides get even exposure. If you have a part with flat sides, you need to make sure that you move it around and flip it over, because if there is a flat side that is down, it will not get enough exposure for the ano to come off.

You will know when the part is done too, when its completely black and dull looking. The black cleans right off with a soft brush and some water. I just take my parts to the sink and clean them up with a brass brush. Works perfect, and then they're ready for polishing, wet sanding, etc.

Don't worry about the Drano eating the aluminum. You would have to leave the part in it for a very extended amount of time. Like I said, 15 minutes should be gods plenty. I have yet to strip a part that took more time soaking than this. Some do take longer than others, but the more you agitate the container and move it around, the faster it seems to work.
