Skip the db651s and go straight for the MM651s.

They are a night and day difference from the db/dxi series.

watch polk's ebay store for refurbs, I've picked up a few sets for ~$120

As far as headunits, I would go for a 'nice' used one over a cheap(<$150) new one. My favorite is the pioneer 80prs.

Sound/vibraton deadining in the doors will make a larger difference than most speaker/heads unit will.

Thanks, I'll keep my eye out for the MM651.
I've never encountered coax speakers before, they will wire straight up to my stock doors, right?
Won't need a crossover or additional amplifier?
Are they any bigger than the DB651s?
Don't want them *not to fit

Sorry, extraordinary noob, here.

As far as the headunit goes, I think I've decided that if the HU gets upgraded, it's gonna get a double-din touchscreen, with perhaps AppRadio (allows me to mirror my iPhone or Android).

In other words, if I go big- I go big
That type of HU is in the $300-400s, and is quite the pretty penny- but the lines of the pilot- if I threw in a single-din radio, it would look incredibly silly.

Want to keep this guy as classy as possible :)
