hi i just got my new wanderer 8XL motor and of course its pre wired with 5.5mm connectors what i want to now is should i get some of these for the controller or just cut them of and solder it straight to the controller like i the i did with my 9L
ive allways thought and been told its better to solder and kee the resistance down but just checking befor i get the wire cutters out
The 5,5mm gold plugs are very durable and sit very tight. The difference between the resistance of 5,5mm gold plugs and soldering directly is minimal.
With the gold plugs you can easily change the motor, change the motor turning direction by switching the two outside wires and take the motor and esc seperately off for maintenence.
so other than ease as i dont tend to take the motor out unless there is a problem id never taken my 9l out other than a couple of time to clean the car then the electronics go with it anyway
would it be ok to chop of the connectors and solder as im from the UK and dont now of any where thet sells 5.5mm connectors and it would meen another few weeks before i could run my car :(
Yes, you can, but do not cut the motor's wires- they're actually the windings of the motor- If you want a new set of BK 5.5 connectors, I think lots of the British hobby shops carry these items.
The name is Alawi. You can call me Al.
Nice to meet you!
Monkey, here does the 5.5mm connectors: http://www.modelpower.co.uk/acatalog/Connectors.html . You are definately better off with connectors than soldering directly, for the reasons Jasper said plus the 5.5mm gold connectors have a lower resistance than a length of 12gauge wire the same length
If you want to get rid of the female plug on your motor, DON'T cut the leads. Just unsolder the plug. Behind the very tip of the leads the single strands are isolated against each other.
There I bought 15 males and 25 female connectors for 32,34 euro + 6,50 shipping. I think the shipping to the UK is around 10/15 euro. They are shipping very fast and the price is killer :017:
