Something happened????

I was out running my hellfire the other day and it came down off of a jump and for some reason just stopped working. The steering servo still works and the motor still beeps when I pull the red jumper but when I pull the throttle nothing happens. All the wires are properly hooked up and the controller did not pop or smoke or burnup so I'm out of ideas as to what could be the problem. Any ideas?

If the receiver was busted, you probably would not be able to turn the wheels or hear that beep. It sounds like the ESC is getting the signal, it's just the ESC output that's inoperable.

If you press the throttle on the transmitter, will the truck roll forward at all if you manually push it? If not, one of the ESC phases may be stuck on, locking the motor. Or, if it does roll, one of the phases might simply be inoperative. Either way, it sounds like the ESC. You know at least 2 phases of the ESC works somewhat (at least enough to beep from the motor).

To totally rule out the receiver, you could plug the ESC wire into the steering slot on the receiver. When you turn right or left, the truck should move forward or backwards accordingly. If that's the case, then the throttle output of the receiver is bad. If there is a bad channel, you might be able to use the AUX channel of your receiver as the throttle provided your radio system has channel mixing.

It actually sounds like a loose connection. I have had the same thing happen with my 9920. What happend was that there was a bad connection that didn't appear to be bad. It was on the motor and the shrink tube I had on it made it seems as though there wasn't a bad connection because I could tug on it and it wouldn't give, but pulling a little harder discovered it. Cured the problem. The reason mine was still beeping was because it made a slight connection but not enough for it to move the motor. Check you connections....

Just to add my experience with the 9918 (9920 now). When I used it in my 1/8 buggy going off of jumps, one normal landing caused my buggy to stop moving. After asking around, I removed the shrink wrap to find that one of the components on the bottom of the circuit board had cracked, even though there had been some padding below it (one layer of velcro on the chassis only). Later, Mike had the controller and was looking at it, and saw what he thought was a thin fracture in the circuit board. At that point he pretty much just sent it to BK.

So, if what has already been suggested doesn't work, it may be worth it to take the shrink off.

thanks for all the advice guys. I know it is not the receiver I will go over all the connections again to see if the problem is there if nothing then I will pull the heat shrink off.
