7XL or 10L for 16cells - 04.04.2005, 05:15 PM

Whats the difference between these 2 motors using 16cells on a full aluminum Emaxx? Ill be using warrior 9918 controller and 16 gp3300 cells... what do you guys think? thanks

With the same gearing, the 10L will be a tick faster, but the 7xl could pull taller gearing and put out the same or more speed. If you truck is a tank, the 7xl will not have to work as hard to move it, and will run cooler as a result. The 10L will still power the truck with authority, though.

Thanks Mike.... I think Ill go with the 7XL, i have the impression taht it will give me more room if iver I want to add more cells, am I correct? What pinion size should I start with using the strobe slipper ( 51 tooth) , Supermaxx 7.5 diffs and regular size tires? ..... Im mostly concern of top speed........ this truck is only gonna see asphalt maybe grass, I have a tmaxx to do all the jumping so I want it as fast as I can ... thanks

I guess I would start at around a 14 or 15 tooth pinion. You could also gear up, but it is always better to start on the safe side and make sure the controller doesn't get too hot. An 18 pinion would get you some serious speed.

I guess 15 tooth it is.... I was looking at jamies site and all he's got pinion wise are 15 and 16 tooth, where do I get teh 17 or 18 t? also Ive heard of Mod 1 for a while now but Ive never known what it means, how is it diff than a normal 5mm spur?

I think Im ready to make my order mike, do you have the pinions available yet? Thanks

Pinions should arrive any day. I just don't know which day! Mod1 is the pitch/size of the gears. There are fewer teeth per inch than then 32 pitch thread on the stock maxx spur (so, teeth are bigger and stronger). I will have a bit more selection. I have some 32 pitch 5mm bore pinions being made as well, and should have them soon.

What spur do you use then for the Mod1? I was thinking of using the strobe + 51t ofna spur...... also is it of to run the tranny backwards? the reason for me asking is if I use the motor mount, this will reverse teh rotation of everything right? this would work perfect for me cos I have a nitro supermaxx and the diff spins bacwards on a nitro truck....... Im buiding this brushless right now and I dont even have anything yet but teh suspension and transmission, if the tranny can run backwards, then all I have to do is switch chassis....... thanks

The strobe slipper uses an Ofna 51 tooth mod1 spur gear. The e-maxx tranny doesn't care which way it runs (forward or backwards), so you can use your maxx parts with no trouble, regardless of which way you mount the motor.

My pleasure. I will let you know when the strobe stuff is listed in the store, as well as the pinions (I have strobe slippers in stock, just haven't listed them in the store yet). In the meantime, I will prepare the rest of your stuff.

Thanks Serum... it took me some time to decide whether to get the Supermaxx chassis or the Gorilla max, the SM chassis is bling bling but the gorilla maxx looks alot functional with the low CG and motorbrace..... I cant wait to run this truck, this full SM was just sitting from someones shelf unran for one and a half years, couldnt pass up the deal when I saw it for sale at my LHS...... shes gonna run now and run really fast lol.....:D

And if you want to go lightweight, you could also drop 4 shocks..

It's going to be one sweet ride!
