Has anyone used the traxxas part 4981x from their hop up list? They say the spool locks the axle ,providing equal power to both wheels no matter what the truck drives over, they are for straight line drags, pulling & Hill climbs. I like all terrain but like to hit the pavement for speed runs. Any benefit for speed runs? Front , rear both,. ? Anyone used them? Currently running 12020 w/wand 8xl 18promatch 3300 in series, ue spyder 8. Mike just sent me apachee 5s but have not used them yet. Waiting on

I used to use one in the rear. Its lighter and stronger than the stock diff, but it pretty much destroyed my rear cornering traction on pavement. I just bought a second one, so Ill be testing it with spools at both ends. It should make for a fun handling car to slide around in the dirt with, but I wouldnt drive it on the street with a spool at all.
Yup, on the street is a no-no. It makes it VERY hard to handle and in the dirt wasn't to fun either. It seemed to spin out even easier than before. Plus, it won't work with your UE 8 Spyder diffs.
a spool in the front will add a lot to you turning radius. when you turn, the truck will still try and go straight. i've got one in my dodge ram, great for going straight through mud or rocks.
I ran the spool in mine. I had problem breaking stuff. It puts all the pressure on the wheel with most traction. I have busted cvds cause of them. They are very fun.

Serum. do you have a truck for just straight line drag races?
I do, and I couldn't get my truck to track straight when I had the spool in. Took the spool out and just like that, it tracked straight as an arrow. I don't recomend it for high speed runs.
A spool is worthless on high speed MT's. The problem starts with the tires, when one tire is larger than the other, the problem starts, since an MT is rather instable (or a truggy, with the same size tires). If one tire gets smaller than the other, (due to bouncing, accelerating or such) the truck starts to dance on the rear wheels. caster and toe in aren not offering too much help. Once a truck starts to bounce like that, the difference in the tires is 1" with ease, an unstable truck is the result.
A spool and high speed straight running trucks are not a good combination.
you can stop that from happening. before you glue the tires and wheels together turn the tires inside out and put DUCK TAPE around the middle of the tire twice and it will stop the tires from balloning.
