I can tell you that my FMA/Kokam 2s 3200mah BalancePro pack barely rises above room temperature when used in either Stock Touring Car on carpet, or when used off-road with my 4wd 1/10th buggy or my 2wd stadium truck with a Novak 4.5. The performance is greatly increased over a pro-level, high-numbers, matched IB 3800 6-cell nimh pack.
I have not used packs made of the cells in the Flightpower packs, but I can personally testify to the quality of Kokam cells after using them for over 8 months now.

Yes, they are going quite strong. I do not, however, have a huge amount of charges on them.
If I had to guess, I'd say I have charged the 2s 3200mah pack about 100 times with most of them being between 5 and 9.5 amp charges (the FMA/Kokam BalancePro 2S system allows up to 3c charging). I've charged two of the 2s2p 6400mah packs about 75 times at anywhere from 5 to 10 amps (the chargers only go up to 10 amps). The last of the 2s2p 6400mah packs has been charged about 25 times at 5 amps.
I have only used these packs at the track, and most times I use the same pack for a full race day - just charge between qualifiers and mains. The 6400mah packs NEVER heat up at all, and the 3200mah pack has never gone more than slightly warmer than room temperature, so I never have to wait to charge and the BalancePro system keeps them balanced without me thinking about it, which is a good thing for me :003:

The unfortunate reality here is that they cost a bit more, FMA is no longer in league with Kokam (most of the products are discontinued), and they're getting tough to find.

However, from what I understand, Great Planes' new lipo packs are Kokam cells. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, the fact that the Kokam 4800 20C cell is rated at 96amps and the Flightpower (Enerland) 3700mah 20C cell is rated at 74amps says that the Kokam 4800 should perform better. But, there is extra weight with the larger capacity.

That's what I was thinking. Kokam is probably trying to get its cells to all places possible now that it has taken a big hit from not selling to FMA.
