Red face Gorillamaxx G2R Steering Rods Problem - 07.26.2006, 05:54 PM

Hi Guys,

Im half way into converting my Revo into an E-Revo using the Gorillamaxx G2R Chassis. The problem Im having is figuring our how to connect the two servos to the steering mechanism with steering rods. The existing steering rods are way too long, but it seems that the angle of the servo to the steering mechanism is too obtuse. I just cant see how you can get the steering working correctly. Anyone else experienced this problem? If so, can you let me in on how you got it fixed?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I used the stock rod ends and made my own connector from a cut off threaded rod to get the correct length. I'm sure someone else here knows exactly what part number works well for this.

When I did my conversion, it took me a hile to figure that out also.:007:

The output shaft of the servo goes towards the back of the truck and the servo horn goes to the inside of the chassis. Make sense?

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Yea... Ignore my last post. I just got home and looked at mine. Its the stock rods. I was thinking about my maxx when I added the rpm steering linkage. I had to make a custom rod for that.

can you guys post a pic? because when i went to set this up too, i wasnt able to figure it out. The stock rod is close to twice as long as it needs to be.

I contacted George at Gmaxx, and he suggested cutting the stock rods to the correct length. But if there's an alternate way, I'd love to know.

Now that I look at this. I'm not sure if I used stock or not.

Anyway. This is how mine is set up.

the stock revo steering shafts are about 5cm long, yours arent even visible :)
thanks for the pic.

Looks like all that remains is the threaded portion of the shaft, to connect the ball ends.
This was very helpful!!

Squirrel, THat is actually the 2.5 ones. The 3.3 ones are the long ones to compensate for the extended chassis.

i guess ill try and dremel my current 3.3 linkages down to fit, but the e-maxx steering links are pretty cheap on ebay. gonna check my LHS too.

if im successful on cutting down the rods, ill have an extra if anyone (traxxmaxx) wants one.
Ill post here if it works.

Thanks jhautz for the pic; it really helped! The following article suggested using spacers between the chassis and the servo to align the steering better.

Do you thinks that is necessary?

Cant hurt to level it out. I havent had any isses as it is though. It might be more of a problem if you run a single servo and are pushing the arm at more of an angle like that. I'm running a dual steering servo setup so one is pulling while th other is pushing. In a single servo setup in one dorection you would be only pushing on the arm and I would expect that might bend over time. Especially if you were using one of those crazy 300oz servos.

Having the rods level to the arm is definatley the better way to go. Is it necessary.... I havent had any problems.
